Network Atlas - Racks and Switches

Hi,

I've done exactly this.  Create your rack layout using visio, something like this:

save it as a jpeg and use this as the background in network atlas, overlaying the node icons.

Same here, CAB layouts and Rack content.  Helps with new employees as well if they have to locate a tape drive for example.  I use Google Sketchup 3D to do mine

I am hoping to eventually be able to incorporate the 3D rotational view of the room into Solarwinds in the future allowing me to zoom into the device with the fault, either a rear view if it's a port and front if say its a drive, depending on the fault you click on.  You never know! I can already rotate and zoom into any of the cabs it's a matter of file formats supported such as gif's or video files being an option for a map view, then being able to transition to another map view based on lets say a group view such as group_front or group_rear maps,  in order to make this work within Solarwinds in the future. here's a visio I started with that has helped me before.

I was actually just building something similar to that.

My only issue now is that I can’t find replicas of my actual hardware to snap into the racks, but that shouldn’t be a tough thing to work around.

No, I had to just use the generics that Visio has.

This is how I've started. What is the best way to assign a node to the image it represents. As of right now, this is how my Map looks in NPM.

Is there anyway to assign those nodes to the objects so they just just sit off to the side?

The best I've managed is to put the object on the server and put the label to the side.  If the label is too big, I rename it with a shorter name that allows me to know what it is.  Since their isn't an object, you'd have to drag out the device.  It would be great if SolarWinds would use these icons similar to what Visio has as there icons for servers, switches, and routers are extremely antiquated.

Yeah, that would be the ideal solution. Hopefully something like this will be in the next version.
