NPM 12 upgrade issue

Check add/remove programs on your primary polling engine. Ensure that SRM has been removed. If you have any additional polling engines, you will need to remove SRM from these also.

Once you have done this, if you have now removed all your Orion modules from the server, you will need to reinstall the versions that you had installed, starting with NPM, to be able to install NPM 12, as you have to have these versions in place, connected to the Orion database and working, before the upgrade will complete.

Did you use the Product Upgrade Adviser before attempting this upgrade? If not I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you use it before attempting any future upgrades, as it will advise you the order in which you need to perform the various upgrades, taking a lot of the pain out of these updates. I removed all SolarWinds modules thru add/remove features setting. but somehow SRM was still detected. I'm also surprised why its being detected. Upgrade advisor is integrated in the nmp12 installer, its the one which detects the SRM module

I just checked license manager, yes it does detect SRM, and also Engineers toolset(Which I also once installed some time ago). with regards to the tool from the link, is it compatible with server OS? because I only see:

• Windows 7
• Windows 8
• Windows 8.1
• Windows 10

Are you running all operations with local admin rights? It's a little odd that the add/remove programs is missing both SRM and toolset installs. Perhaps there's something wonky in the registry?

If so, you may be looking at a server rebuild to resolve these issues. Either way, I recommend that you raise a call with support via your customer portal:

There may be some manual tweaking of your Orion database required to resolve this issue.

Final thought from me:

If you have a hypervisor estate, do you have enough resources available to create a new VM to replace the existing primary polling engine? If so, assuming the hypervisor's network config will provide access to your Orion database and the target devices,  you could create a new VM, install the Orion modules you currently had installed (minus SRM and the toolset), and then run the upgrade. As long as you have the correct versions installed that match the Orion database, this will work.

If you do try this, ​BACKUP YOUR DATABASE BEFORE YOU DO!​

The application will run on Windows Server

it wants a product code of the software I want to uninstall, SRM and Engineer's toolset don't appear on control panel, so I'm not sure what's next for me.

Did you purchase a license for SRM & enigneer's toolset, or were these evaluations? If you purchased these, the licenses for them will be in your SolarWinds customer portal:

Your probably going to need to do a license reset and that means opening a support ticket.

Even though SRM and Engineer's toolset were not licensed?....they were just installed as trials then expired
