Maintenance Mode - With Monitoring

Do it old-school.  A custom node property to suppress alerts;  all alerts check this property and only fire if this property is not set.

Otherwise might lead to false-negative issue later on.

Simplest would be an alert on that property being set.

After a set amount of time (if not reset by the person who was doing the work) the alert will fire and reset the custom node property back to 'alerting' mode again.

hmm, possible.

but maintenance period are not of regular periods. as in the pockets of time period for all nodes could have different maintenance timings.

perhaps some got more than 1 day, some just a couple of hours.

i cant be allowing the team to create individualised alerts per maintenance session.

npm will be cluttered with alerts and needs housekeeping later on...

If you want better automation then do it similarly to the way maintenance mode is done.

The custom suppress alert property is not true false - it is a number in minutes, or an end time. 

Then the alert action to turn them back on again is simply counting down till expiry, and clearing the suppression value.

I think i got what you meant.

Let me discuss with my team if they are open to this suggestion.

Furthermore we may also need to look into user permissions to allow definition of (new) alerts.

you can use "Mute alerts" for continues monitoring .

you can use the "Mute alert" option for continues monitoring and this option is available in above 12.2 version of NPM.

and how you will keep any eye on "Muted alert".

you can create a sql based report for muted alert and set this report in home page, so we will see how many nodes are in still muted state and you can also take an appropriate action on pending muted node.
