Maintaining a record of Orion's loading

I keep a weekly record of the figures from Orion > Settings > Polling Engines of our numerous engines and I use colours from Excel's Conditional Formatting to highlight potential overloading. It helps me to keep a check on growth and to have some evidence to show management when I want to deploy another Additional Polling Engine.

We run most of the optional modules and we have the same modules deployed on the Primary Polling Engine and on every Additional Polling Engine, but I notice that each of the paragraphs of polling engine stats are laid out slightly differently.

I would have expected the Primary Polling engine to have a few more fields than the Additional Polling Engines, but would have thought that each and every Additional Polling Engine would have had the same sequence of metrics. The metrics are all there, it's just that they are shuffled on each engine.

Is this by design or by some randomness from our original deployment sequence. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? Can I standardize the sequence or will it need a change in development?

If it helps make your life easier, this information is also available as Windows Performance Counters that can be monitored by SAM and reported upon using the Web Based Report Writer.

Looks like you are talking about the polling rate available on this view. They are actually dependent on the type of nodes,custom pollers and monitor's you add onto each of your pollers. This is as per the original design and it could happen that you might not have the same metrics as well in certain cases. As I mentioned it depends on what devices and applications you manage through those pollers.

Hi,
I've added some screenshots of the list of metrics from my APE's. I can understand that there may be additional metrics displayed depending on what is being monitored by that engine, but it's the shuffling of the sequence that I find difficult to understand.

On a lighter note - I can still see the IP address on the screenshot
I get the point now - looks like its as per the original design. I just verified the same on my box and yes I can see the same -> shuffling of the sequence
I don't have an answer , but then what I can think of is -> "There is no sequence to it , it just has a place holder in there and displays the entry as soon as it completes its polling"
For example if VIM.VMware.Polling completes before SAM Application Polling , it would display VIM.VMware.Polling at the top and SAM Application Polling Rate at the bottom. But then I could be totally be incorrect.

I believe the order is based upon the sequence the modules were installed and used. As for why some categories appear on some pollers but not others, I believe this is caused when there are no object types of that particular category being monitored by that poller. When this occurs, the category (such as wireless) is not listed since it is not applicable.
