List of virtual machines, state unknown

Hi,

We have just recently updated a customer of ours to ESX 5.1 update 3 and now in SolarWinds NPM the virtual machine state in List of Virtual Machines is showing as Unknown and we can no longer get data for memory and CPU usage per VM from the ESX host.

Has anyone experienced this before and found out how to fix it?

I raised a case with SolarWinds techinical support yesterday but they are experiencing higher than usual demand and taking a long time to get back to me.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi,
In the end it turned out we had some duplication of entries in the database that needed removing and we also needed to change the virtualisation polling method to poll the ESX hosts directly in some cases instead of going through the vCenter.
We have since carried out upgrades and applied hot fixes too which may have also helped resolve the situation but a combination of all of them probably did fix the issue one way or another and stopped it from occurring again.

Wow! Not exactly the solution I was hoping for, but I'll investigate my hot fix level now and make sure we are up to date.
