LanSurveyor -vs- MapMaker

I have read several posts and replies discussing either or both of these tools/addons/products.  I am installing 9.1 and looking for the most "effective" way to include a map into SW.  It seems to me like they overlap in functionality and from the posts and replies on the subject other people are looking for something better--than map maker. Are u planning to streamline/converge or include some of the more advaced features of LanSurveyor into map maker?  In map maker can u create a virtual node to represent all nodes in say a capmus environment so you could add a single icon to a map representing a whole campus or city?  Has anyone done this in map maker?
