Interfaces showing over 100% utilisation

Does anyone have problem with 3COM switches sometimes showing interfaces over 100% utilised and in some instances over 1000%.

I followed Solarwinds instructions to put each individual switch in a stack into Orion rather than have the whole stack monitored as a single entity, this worked fine for all but one of our stacks.

It's a stack of 4 3COM 4400's and every so often some of it's interfaces will go wild.

Anybody got any help they can give it would be much appreciated?

Thanks
  • yep, we got that problem too. one of our router guys was using bandwidth statements to control load balancing and routing. so when npm discovered the interfaces, it read the bandwidth that the router guy put in and started showing over 400% utilization.

it was both easy and hard to fix this problem. it was easy to fix the solarwinds server. we went to the interface details screen in the system manager and entered the correct bandwidth for each fr interface. from then on the utilization reports were correct, even old reports changed !! the hard part was getting the router guy to stop mucking with the bandwidth statements of each fr interface. in fact he's still doing it 8-)

ps. also try changing your counter rollover from method one to method two. you can change it from the advanced settings screen in the system manager.
