When I go into Manage Dependencies and select a dependency and then click on "Alerts on Child" there is only one Alert, Alert me when a group goes into warning or critical state. Should there be other alerts to chose or is the default?
thanks
mrogers,
The following sections of the SolarWinds Orion NPM Administrator Guide may provide some insight:
I created a group using the single point of failure (the router) and another group that has all the nodes that depend on that router. I created a dependency with TEST 198 as the Parent and Room 519 Test AVPN as the child so when TEST 198 goes down Room 519 Test AVPN should be unreachable. When I was creating the group I didn’t see any Alerts on Child. Then I created a copy of the “Alert me when a group goes into warning or critical state” and enabled it. I went back to Manage Dependencies and saw 2 Alerts on Child, the copy I made of the group alert and the original alert. Now I am not seeing either of these alerts. I have tried disabling one alert to see if that would bring one back and it worked. Then a short time later the alert was gone. I went back to the Alert Manager and enabled the alert that was disabled and then I saw both alerts in Manage Dependencies. So I left it like that, both alerts were showing in Manage Dependencies, and decided not to check it until after the weekend. I checked after the weekend and now both alerts are missing from Alerts on Child.
I might have answered my own question…I pulled the WAN link to TEST 198 and then went to Manage Dependencies and checked the Alerts on Child and I did see the alerts. So I guess I should only see active alerts? Can anyone confirm this please? Thanks
