Counting Elements

Should we only count ports that are in use, or do we have to count all. for example, Nexus 2960, 24 port. Count all 24 or only the handful that are being used?

Thank you,

GANSDM

  • You can choose which interfaces you want to monitor on a node. So, yes, typically the ports in use that you would like to monitor.

  • I'm going to answer the question from a different direction:

An element is an IP address (ie: the whole box), a disk, or an interface.

Your used element count is whichever of those numbers is largest per device you are monitoring.

Let's say you are monitoring JUST the IP address on 50 machines (ie: ping only) - you are using 50 elements.

Let's say you decide to also monitor one interface on those same machines (and nothing else) - you are STILL using just 50 elements.

Let's say you decide to monitor 2 interfaces on those same 50 machines - you are using 100 elements of your license.

Let's say you decide to add disk monitoring - one for each device - you are still ONLY using 100 elements

Hope this makes sense and possibly answers more of the question you are getting at.
