Cisco Interface Type Reporting

I noticed that the Orion will advise you that it's a "serial" or other type of interface, but is there a way to have it drill down further?

What I am trying to do is get a count of how many standard serial interfaces I have, compared to internal CSU/DSU wic cards.

IIRC, the interface type is taken from whatever SNMP says the interface type is.

With Cisco devices, the interface type depends largely on the encapsulation used. HDLC shows up as Serial. PPP, Frame Relay, and ATM show up accordingly. This is regardless of the CSU/DSU type.

NG is right though, you'll need a custom property to define what kind of CSU/DSU is on the line...then you can make a report. If you don't already have a database of record, this might be a good place to start.

In System Manager, select the View button and select interfaces.
On the tabs at the very top of the page, select view> customize current view
Make sure you have "interface description" selected.

Serial interfaces show up as "serial". Integrated CSU/DSU serial interfaces show up as
"ppp".

Columns will sort alphabetically when clicked on the header.

You could also use the Custom Property editor to export this info.
