Cannot poll ESXi 5.5 servers on NPM 11.01

I have not edited the snmp.xml I simply ran some commandline configs I found online here but maybe they dont do the same thing....http://everythingshouldbevirtual.com/vsphere-5-5-enable-snmp

The commands look to be the same as editing the snmp.xml file. As I have a Dell OME monitoring my ESX servers too, I was running into problems specifying more than one trap server with the command line, hence editing the snmp file.

Failing that, you could always use vCenter to manage your servers ;o)

Unfortunately, I cannot add the vcenter server in either. its very strange. I have been attempting to find a log on either the ESXi server or the solarwinds server that will give me more info. All I get is :

            Test Failed. Cannot login with selected vCenter or ESX credential

I have even tried creating new users and assigning permissions. I have tried restarting the management agents as well but to no avail. DO you know if Solarwinds keeps a log somewhere when it tries to add a node but fails?

From the Solarwinds server, if you type https://x.x.x.x/mob in a browser, are you able to login with the credentials you are supplying (replace x.x.x.x with the IP of ESX v5.5. host)?

That says the VMware API is responding well, and no issues accessing it from the SolarWinds server. Can you go to http://x.x.x.x/Orion/VIM/Admin/VMwareServers.aspx (where x.x.x.x is the IP of the Orion server) and post a screencap of that? Is the user account a domain account or a local account?

Have you also tried to recreate your vmware credentials in NPM: Admin\settings\virtualization settings\vmware credentials library

I have two account in there, one is the vmware account for the ESX servers and the other is a domain account for login onto vcenter

The TCP port might be missing from the link: http://NPM_server_name_or_IP:8787/Orion/VIM/Admin/VMwareServers.aspx
