Can the SQL server for NPM be a Virtual machine , what would be the specs ?

Folks,

I'm planning to install Solarwinds SLX licensed NPM and looking to hear from the Pro's , can we use Virtual machine for the SQL DB server , if so what would be the best specs for the Virual machine server for an SLX licensed environment ?

Have refereed the Orion multi-module system guidelines , but my queries are more of a practical and working state. Also,any pointers of best things to do for NPM is appreciated.
