Can't change polling method on existing SNMP node

Why can't I change the polling method from 'SNMP & ICMP' on an existing node anymore?

When I try to edit such a node the three other bullets; 'External Node', 'ICMP' & 'WMI & ICMP' are greyed out.

On 'ICMP' nodes I can switch it to a different polling method but not the other way around.

I believe this changed for me around version 10.1, 10.2 or 10.2.1 but I'm not 100% certain. Thanks.

There were some changes made in 10.2 when we added support for WMI. Unfortunately, the information collected by WMI and SNMP is different (WMI does not collect information about interface utilization) so if you switch methods and "downgrade" you could lose data. That being said, we realize this is important for users and are working on making this work again. My apologies for the inconvenience. The only way around this now is to delete the node and add it again with the polling method you want to use.

I see this post is several months old. Is this ability now available in the latest version of SAM?

Thanks we are currently running APM 4.2 but preparing to upgrade once our new hardware gets in.

it should be as simple as having the user delete the interfaces off the node and then swap to wmi.
All you gain from snmp is interface monitoring and you can get that from the switch side.
and since the user is the one deleting the interfaces there is no worry about data loss occuring with out user permission.
