Best Practining when Upgrading to latest version NPM, SAM,NTA and NCM

Hi I have tested upgrading to SolarWinds modules - NPM 11- SAM 6.1 - NTA 4.1 - NCM 7.3 on Windows 2008 R2 OS. Now, our company standard OS is changed to Windows 2012 R2 server. Please help with following scenario:

NPM, SAM, NTA and NCM SolarWinds all on one server with Windows 2008 R2 server. I will need to add the NTA Flow Storage (FSDB) server (VM server). I tested this with a Windows 2008 R2 server. The WSA team is asking if SolarWinds support NTA Flow Storage (FSDB) on Windows 2012 R2 considering all of SolarWinds modules (npm, sam, nta and ncm) and Database server are running on Windows 2008 R2 standard.

I really appreciate your feedback and input and if possible providing document to support your input.

That should answer your question about what versions will run on Windows 2012 R2.

It will support 2012. Our environment is on 2012 without issue including the NTA database server.

Hi Matt, thanks for your prompt response and always valuable feedback. Having everything (SolarWinds server, SQL server and NTA Flow Storage FSDB) on Win 2012 R2 should work. But, how about SolarWinds and SQL servers being on Win 2008 R2 and FSDB on Win 2012 R2? Best,

I don't think it's going to affect anything. The software is only going to care about port communication. As long as it supports the OS, which it does, a mixed environment shouldn't cause any issues.

Running Orion Platform 2014.2.1, SAM 6.1.1, QoE 1.0, NCM 7.3.2, NPM 11.0.1, NTA 4.1.0, WPM 2.1.0, Toolset 11.0.1, UDT 3.2.0, IVIM 1.10.0 all on 2012 R2
FlowDB and SQL2012 are also on 2012R2

ZibaK, what are the specs of your NTA Flow Storage VM? We are planning to upgrade from 3.11 and noticed that with 4.0+ it requires a new separate server for the flows.

Type the following line into the command prompt on all of your pollers (during business hours to capture the higher load):

typeperf "\SolarWinds NetFlow Averages\PDUs Processed per second" -sc 1
Note: The value returned by the command describes the average Flow/sec for the poller over the last 5 minutes.

Q: How do I determine the right amount of Storage for my NTA 4.0 Flow Storage Database, based on my NTA 3.x usage?
