Bandwith benefit with additional pollers?

Hi all

I have an NPM 12.1 setup that is monitoring a few sites with slow and unreliable network connections. I'm looking into the additional polling engine concept but I'm unsure if aiding slow connections is the intended use for APE? I understand if you need to distribute load across several servers but the load on my NPM server isn't my problem, network load is.
