Alerting on UPS failures

Has anyone done any alerting on different UPSs?

We have several different models from 2 different companies and I want to alert on errors (like battery failure (especially this one), low on power,onBattery,minutes left,etc.) but I dont know the specific OIDs to create a custom poller...

Are there any templates?

I am using HP 1500 XR, 5500 XR, APC Smart UPS 750 and 1500.

Take a look in the NPM content exchange area. If you sort by post name APC will be near the top. There are several pollers there you can download.

I could not find any for battery failure, not for APC nor for HP.

Have you tried using UnDP and walking the MIB on the devices in question?

If you browsed the MIB on the device and the OID is not there, then you need to update the SNMP agent on the device, if there is an update and it includes the OID you are looking for. The ability to do this varies by vendor and device. Check with the vendor to see if it is possible with these backups.

well, if it can do a trap alert on it there probably is an OID for it too but I just dont know which one that would be :-\

btw, i didnt quite understand what you ment by it being possible with "these backups".
the OIDs I guess would only be updated if the firmware is updated.

I think what they were meaning by "these backups" was battery backups.

The APC MIB is 1.3.6.1.4.1.318. Some OIDS that might give you what you want are
.7 low battery
.17 battery needs replacement
.53 battery over temp
.80 no battery
.156 battery test fail
