Alerting and Custom Properties

Create a custom property named _Email_Nodes and put the email addresses into that property.

Then create an alert and in the alert email action use the variable below for the To: field

${N=SwisEntity;M=CustomProperties._Email_Nodes}

This will allow you to control where the email is sent via custom properties

An that would work under an alert that is "Monitoring the whole environment"?

Wouldn't that just send out an email with the custom property in the subject?  I don't understand how adding that line into the to: field matches that with the other custom property and sends to the correct group?

Nevermind, I think I understand that now.  But what if there are 2 email groups that we need to send it to?

The email address can actually be a comma separated list of addresses, so in this example _Email_Nodes could contain, "group1@example.com, group2@example.com"

Here is an example. I have one node down alert for all nodes. There are many different severities, assignment groups, and email addresses based on who owns the server so I created custom properties _Severity, _Group, _Email so if you look at my nodes custom properties they look like:

ServerABC _Severity 2 _Group ServerSupport  _Email Gary@serversupport.com

ServerDEF _Severity 1_Group LinuxSupport  _Email Tina@linuxsupport.com

ServerGHI _Severity 3_Group AIXSupport  _Email John@intelsupport.com

These custom properties _Severity, _Group, _Email are used as variables used in alerts for passing ticket info on to the ticketing system as well as sending email notifications to the correct groups. 

I actually just created a "emailcc" custom property that I think will work!  Thank you.
