NCM, Option to hide/encrypt credentials ans snmp comunitys on the configuration backup files.

In NCM, when we generate a config backup file, anyone that have acess to the file will be able to see user name, password and comunity, and there is no option to hide or encrypt it.

be able to hide/encrypt credentials would be very usefull for the network, security wise.

Please make it possible to hide or encrypt this data.

Hi
this is possible at the command level. Some vendors (let's say Cisco), allows you to hide password or even configuration lines when you execute show running/startup.
Solved: show run and hide password - Cisco Community
Should you change the command SolarWinds executes to get the running or startup config, please bear in mind this is possible by editing the device template assigned to that device.

We have this issue also as the passwords are visible in the scripts. I would suggest that what we need is another variable for username and password which can be used in the scripts. Currently there is only one such variable. It would also be nice to stop the result of the log file going in the email and instead have just 'pass' or 'fail'. Currently we cannot use the email alert as the password are visible and we are not allowed to email passwords.

Sean,
This request is about credentials in backed-up config files. One option is to make the device not store the information in the config file. If not applicable, then it's a NCM feature request.

Hiding Usernames and SNMP Community strings has been supported for a few versions. You can change the setting under Settings> NCM Settings> Security.
