Fix 'Compare Node Configs' comparison output - Huge step back taken

Fix 'Compare Node Configs' comparison output - Huge step back taken

When comparing the differences between two devices, or even the same device between two different backups, why was it changed so that 'only' the differences are displayed by default with no context? To see where in the configuration the changes fall in the overall config you have to now click "+ xyz unchanged line(s)" a bizarre amount of times both above and below the highlighted changes.

I understand the thought behind it, but at minimum there should be an "Expand All" option, because this portion of the NCM module is practically useless in its current state.  As the function sits now, it now reads likes the Reports that can be generated showing only differences, but the ability to view the entire config quickly, with differences highlighted, needs to return.

  • So we made the change suggested above last night, and now the generated daily reports we have setup now do the exact opposite of my original complaint.

How can we have this setup to display changes, including contextual config statements/whole config, adhoc (NCM Compare Node Configs) 'and' to also generate reports listing only changes made, no context, via email?

  • Same thing happened to me. After an upgrade I could no longer see the whole config, only the difference. I found a setting had either been changed during the upgrade or it now displayed differently with that setting.

Settings > NCM Settings > Config Settings

    Config Comparisons
Select "Display the full side-by-side comparison"

Mine was set to show 5 lines as default and I had to switch it to full after the upgrade.

  • I don't see the same thing you do, and I'm running Platform 2019.4 HF3.  NCM's Config Change report still shows the context I need, even as it did years ago on earlier versions.  I have always had NCM set to show the preceding and trailing three lines of config surrounding the change, and I don't see the same problem you're seeing.

I.M. me and maybe I can help you find the problem and resolve it by comparing my Config Change Report options to yours.

  • do the "config comparisons" settings make any difference?
You can change how many lines are displayed as well as comparing the full side by side
