Update to 2020.2.1 HF 2 Issue

We are attempting to upgrade to 2020.2.1 HF 2 from 2019.4 HF 5 with Security fix and ran into an issue immediately. The installer is asking if we want to resume a previous installation and when we click "Restart" it only displays NCM 2019.4 HF 1 is available and claims everything is up to date. We cannot continue from that point. Please note in the attached screenshot that it shows "Resume Cancelled Install" even though we clicked to restart the installation.

We did restart the server and did some preliminary troubleshooting but no luck. Any help is appreciated.

  •  I might try making sure you have a backup of your database, and then validate through the database.

    1. Open the SolarWinds Database Manager
    2. Look for the SWA_InstallationSession Table in the DB
    3. Check to see if any row has IsActive field set to "true".
    4. If you do, enable table editing and right-click on the row on the leftmost cell next to column name id, then delete the selected row.

    Then try the upgrade again.

  • Unfortunately we do not see any data in that particular table.

  • Are you running this from Centralized Upgrades or obtaining installers from the customer portal.

It is possible you are grabbing the wrong installer. All Hotfixes are available in a single location (Listed under the Hot Fixes Tab):

When downloading they will be in the form of a .exe.

However, if you are upgrading to the 2020.2.1 HF2, I recommend grabbing the full offline installer, and while the focus is to get the Orion Platform up to the latest version, the Orion Platform is not a product itself, so grab the offline installer for NPM - which will look similar to this:

    NPM Release.png

When downloading this file, it should be a .ISO. Once downloaded, you can open the .ISO and look at the Sub-Installers folder to see the components and would want to see the following:

    SubInstallers.png

Hopefully this helps. You can also verify the appropriate file via the Checksums.

  • We have been attempting to use the .exe for the upgrade: Solarwinds-Orion-HotFix-2020.2.1-OfflineInstaller.exe

We will give the .iso a  try.

    Thank you!
