New feature questions

What is the timeframe for the NCM additional collector feature?

Will the limit on node be 10K per collector?

Will the management be central to the primary NCM?

How will the assignment of the node to a collector be done? as in NPM?

Will each collector do configuration backups, will there be a common archive location?

Answers will really help as we are at 22K nodes and expanding to a 3rd NCM and would really prefer a single instance we can intergrate

  • Hi sjweinstein,

What is the timeframe for the NCM additional collector feature?
FC> As a public company, we cannot answer this question. Just as an FYI, when we have a beta of a given release (we don't have a beta of this, yet), we are usually a few months away from the GA. This is based on what typically happens for Orion products. Could be different in the future. Can we count you in as a candidate for the NCM beta version that will have support for multiple polling engines, when available?

Will the limit on node be 10K per collector?
FC> Yes, this will be the recommended  limit.

Will the management be central to the primary NCM?
FC> A good portion of the management will be via WEB, so central in essence. Settings, will move from the Win32 to the Web and become applicable to all polling engines. Some controls (e.g. job scheduling) will remain on Win32's (one Win32 on each Additional polling Engine)

How will the assignment of the node to a collector be done? as in NPM?
FC> Yes, exactly the same way.

Will each collector do configuration backups, will there be a common archive location?
FC> Yes. The config backups happen in the DB, so central but the disk version will be on each Win32, so not common.

FC> This is what this evolution will allow you to handle.
