Connection refused by Cisco devices when executing command script

Hi - I've been trying to use NCM to execute a simple 'write memory' command script in the format ${SaveConfig} to my Cisco switches and routers; but every time I try to run it, I get the message 'connection refused by host <device_ip_address>'. I ran the session-trace tool and executed the script again. The output of the session trace made it appear that the connection actually succeeded, but the SolarWinds debug file returned this information: *** [10.10.72.20] OnConnect received, err = 10061.

It looks to be a socket error, perhaps you have conifg method set wrong; TELNET vs. SSH on that node.

Hi, Troy - that seems to be the case, I think. When I try to test the job, it does say the transfer protocol is Telnet, which is something we don't allow on our network. My problem is that I can't see where to change it to SSH in the job setup! Any advice on where to look for that setting?

Open the device in NCM. On the right, scroll down to Communication and open this section. Verify you have the desired method in the three areas called "Excecute scripts using", "Request Configs Using", and "Transfer Configs Using".
If you have them set to SSH (or whatever you want/allow), the process should work properly for you.
