Adding new MIBS

Jump to solution

Hi Guys!

Can you help me out with this please:

  1. What are the ways to add new mibs in order to get more information from new vendors and models of equipement.
  2. Also, Is there any way to add new access points manually? This is because NPM detects some access points as AP but others doesn't.

Thank you!!

1 - if you know the OID of the MIB, then simply add it by using the Universal Device poller on the server (Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Network Performance Monitor).  There isn't a way to just add the MIBs into Orion and have the software automatically start polling them.  You can also submit the MIB file to SolarWinds and then download the MIB Database update that follows your submission.  However, you'd still have to use the Universal Device Poller to poll for the values.

2 - If you know the IPs and community strings of the access points, you can go into Manage Nodes and then Add Node and walk through the process manually to add each node.  If you are seeing these missed due to how you are scanning the subnets, you can try using a list of IPs that contain the APs.  If these are thin APs, then you'd have to add the LAN controller to get statistics on them, then you'd have to add each AP by IP for only up/down status.

Is there a special way to submit the MIBs or does one just open a ticket and attach the MIB file?

That would be the standard way to get it submitted.  I don't think there's a forum for mib submission.  Usually you'll get a response about submitting mibs and it won't change the way Orion polls, and from there it's about a week or two before the new update that contains those MIB files is available.
