Do I need a community string for my C3750G?

I want to use the Real time Bandwith Manager on my WS-C3750G-48PS when I show SNMP I get the following:

Chassis: FOC0937U0ZX

1634 SNMP packets input

    0 Bad SNMP version errors

    1634 Unknown community name

    0 Illegal operation for community name supplied

    0 Encoding errors

    0 Number of requested variables

    0 Number of altered variables

    0 Get-request PDUs

    0 Get-next PDUs

    0 Set-request PDUs

    0 Input queue packet drops (Maximum queue size 1000)

0 SNMP packets output

    0 Too big errors (Maximum packet size 1500)

    0 No such name errors

    0 Bad values errors

    0 General errors

    0 Response PDUs

    0 Trap PDUs

SNMP global trap: enabled

SNMP logging: disabled

SNMP agent enabled

1. Do I need to setup a community string and enable SNMP logging?

2. If so what does "SNMP global trap: enabled" and "SNMP agent enabled" mean in relation to this process?

3. Can I set my community string on all of my switches or is this a security vulnerability?

Yes you will need to setup SNMP on your switch. You could just have a read only one so security isn't breached.

Just use

snmp-server community community_name RO

Generally speaking on devices with SNMP enabled by default, they use public for the RO community and private for the RW community.

Your device is polled by snmp so snmp needs to be activated.
