BIND DNS Requirement

Can we have a feature on Solarwinds that we can add BIND DNS to the IPAM without having to have write access?  It is documented below that Solarwinds requires to have write access.

This is for us users that do not want to utilize the function of creating records in the IPAM but rather to simply be able to replicate it to the IPAM server

  • I currently have setup and running a BIND9 DNS server to serve my personal domains, but I would like to know are there any sort of best current practices for this sort of thing? Right now I only have two servers, one master, and one slave in two different locations and the updates are sent from the master over the internet.

I do have a VPN between these two boxes, should I be sending updates out over the VPN vs. the internet instead? I'm not sure it even matters because it's just record updates, but was curious as to what a recommended practice would be from a security perspective.
