It says it scanned, but...

I have set up several subnets for automatic scanning.  In the event log it says it did the scan, but it took 0 seconds and found 0 IPs.  I know that is wrong.  It is doing this for all but one subnet set up.  For that one, it says it took .4 seconds and found 9 IPs.  That one sounds correct.

All entries are set up similar, with automatic scan left enabled and neighbor scanning disabled.

SolarWinds Orion Core 2010.2.1, IPAM 1.7.1

  • What is the size of those subnets?

What it said in total addresses for those subnets?

Please take in mind that only existing IP addresses in subnet are scanned so if you delete IP addresses those would nto be scanned untill re-added.

  • It is a new entry so no IPs have ever been found to delete.  It is a /16 subnet.

    65534 Hosts, 10.9.0.0 to 10.9.255.255
  • Scanning 65K IP addresses would take about 1 hour. Thats why IPAM do not automatically scan all IPs in subnet range but scan only IPs which are added into IPAM (initially as available). In small subnets like /24 such addresses are added by default in larger subnets one have to add them manually.

So when you create /16 subnet you have to also manually add address ranges in which your 'to be scanned' devices are. This can be done by selecting subnet in tree and click on button 'Add IP Range'.

nm, appears to be a feature change between the version we had and the we now have.  thanks
