EOC - What We Are Working On (Updated June 17th, 2019)

To receive updates on the EOC roadmap, JOIN thwack and BOOKMARK this page

Enterprise Operations Console 2.2 has shipped, and work has already begun on the next release.  To see what has changed as of EOC 2.2 please review the release notes: Enterprise Operations Console 2.2 Release Notes.   We will continue to build upon the 2.2 release to extend the new features and functionality further.  We're currently working on:

      • SAML and Active Directory Authentication Improvements.
      • Orion Maps Integration.
      • Ability to manage Alerts and Custom Properties from EOC.
      • Support for Azure SQL Managed Instance

Looks like the same roadmap from 2013 but I'll post this here since I posted it on the old roadmap post too..

I would love to see AppStack in EOC. We have our Network and storage products in one Orion environment, Server and Virtualization in another and SQL with DPA in a third. Because of the amount of components being pulled within our environment we can't have one monolithic Orion instance. Being able to aggregate the info from all the Orion instances into an EOC AppStack would be ideal. The way it is now we have the AppStack tiers broken into different Orion instances so AppStack simply doesn't work for us as well as it could...

Since your considering making EOC a manager of managers for Orion platforms, thats great, but also in the world today, we push our alerts to a 3rd party manager of managers, that has the ability to take inputs from other manager of managers, or from command line, input etc. One with the ability to create custom class structures, and rules, and run commands to act on the alerts and pass them to other 3rd party programs such as interfaces to other tools like helpdesks or paging tools. Has any thought been given to having EOC become a manager of managers that can simply and cheaply accept alerts from several Orion instances as well as other 3rd party sources through some cli interface. IE it's great to have all our orion alerts in one place, but if we have to maintain two managers because of the non-orion alerts then it makes sense for us to never use EOC and manage all our alerts in one place, the one that can handle both alert types.

Hopefully the EOC developers are working so furiously on the exciting new version of the product that they have not even had time to post any inspirational wisdom here.

I second the notion by adamsrb that the new EOC should strive to play well with others... This would help make it a truly "enterprise-class" tool.

On the EOC wish list:

  • Internal User Accounts and not just AD based
  • Combined reporting e.g. where common filter combines values across Orion instances. This is required where customers have global deployments and need singular reporting across them
  • Different update method for data
    • large Orion instances with high device counts can hit the data collection
    • 5 minute polling means data is often stale and therefore using EOC within a NOC that provides global visibility is severely impacted
  • Simpler user management
  • NOC view function
  • Custom Property mapping override
  • Combine Alert Central functionality into EOC
  • Change separation of mapping where the need to recreate maps in EOC that exist in NPM is required

Changed my mind on this. Roll EOC's functions into Librato and give it a good way to connect to multiple orion instances so we can pull data from all locations including cloud and have metric consolidation to a single point available from anywhere. Get AppStack into Librato and let Librato handle all the reporting and dashboards.

That's my current theory on EOC...

Hi EOC users!  A long time coming, but you can now sign up for the beta of EOC 2.0, which is based on the Orion core.  More details to follow.

mind blowing

Any word on EOC 2.0? Still in beta?

Thanks

-Jim

yes Jim, we've just released new beta2 today. Everybody who signed up to this beta survey: EOC 2.0 Beta Participation Survey will have a chance to try out features from "WWWO post above".

Hi michal.hrncirik

I have completed this survey few weeks ago but still didn't receive anything with regards to trying EOC 2.0. Are you able to advise how do I proceed next to get this v2 package?

Hi Alex,

let me check the list but I'm sending over you the latest beta for a try (we should roll out another beta in +-2 weeks).

Any word on a release date for EOC 2.0?

We're now having to seek other options for deploying executive dashboards and client dashboards, since I've not seen any development in EOC that facilitates using it for these critical deliverables.

EOC; the Eternally Overdue Console.

which products are you using to create the exec dashboards... we are looking at creating custom dashboards as well, and just threw out the EOC as a viable option.

I agree with most comments in here. EOC 2.0 is a belated, and welcomed update to the current EOC product. Existing EOC customers will have a lot to gain from EOC 2.0, as much of the functionality you would expect in an Enterprise-Class tool, simply are not there in the current version.

After being an active participant in the EOC 2.0 Beta v1 & 2, I am very enthusiastic about seeing a GA release on this product sometime in the hopefully not too distant future.

I haven't seen any of the new EOC stuff for 2.0 but I can't wait. More so now with NPM 12. The difference in "look" / "feel" between EOC and NPM now is even more pronounced. Is that something that's being updated as well?

Is there anywhere to get any sneak peeks on the newer version of EOC?

Still no 2.0?

Yes, there is a way. SolarWinds product development team is constantly engaging with Thwack forum members to showcase future concepts, improvements, gathering feedback on future UI, etc. They are really working full steam there to make it happen. There is only two step process to get to see it and get your hands on Alpha/Beta release:

1. Tick box in your Thwack profile "Possible UX Participant"

2. Make yourself busy on the forum by helping others, answering questions and publishing some valuable insights, work, solutions, etc that you think may be of a benefit to others

... and then - Magic Happens! - boom - you are invited to see and test-run something super secret, something that hasn't been seen my anyone, and moreover - put forward your personal suggestions, recommendations and improvements for the RC

With Gratitude,

Alex

This sounds very interesting.

Do you have a roadmap and possible release date for those features, i.e. in 2017 or 2018?

Keen to hear when the 'Manager on Manager' features will be developed.

We have 19 Solarwinds installations within separate security zones.

We require the Alerting and maps to be pulled back onto the EOC for a centralised NOC view.

The NOC cannot 'Click-through' or be re-directed to the separate solarwinds installations everything they need has to be pulled back to the EOC.

We would prefer to use separate Pollers rather than separate installations but the cost per poller is prohibitive hence EOC looking like the solution.

Ditto... I've got 7 installations so far and I'm always asked "Can we tie them all together, and get them connected?" -- the existing classic EOC does not realistically achieve this.

I was in awe over the improvements of the EOC in each beta version (weren't there 3?) That is, compared to the classic EOC. I'm very surprised I've not heard anything else regarding this. Lots of SolarWinds customers would benefit from this product.

Pretty please *with a cherry on top* can we get some more focus on this? WE NEED IT!

PMs...  Please note that is has been 10 months since the last update concerning your plans for EOC.  Is SolarWinds sitll committed to this integration module?  In any event, please let us know so we may plan accordingly. Many thanks!

mr.e as a rule, our teams are often working hard to remain on a cadence with each product, and we hope to be able to provide 1-2 releases a year.  At times, that cadence may be disrupted for one reason or another.  This may be due to a bug fix, or a feature that is important for this version, but rest assured we are doing everything in our power to deliver a solid release each and every time.  There have been Beta's during this 10 month period, and we officially announced RC of the 2.1 release 10 days ago.  ANNOUNCING THE ENTERPRISE OPERATIONS CONSOLE 2.1 RC - NOW AVAILABLE!!

I would suggest logging into the RC forum, and installing the RC to provide your feedback for what you would like to see next, and what is important for your organization.

We have delivered the following features in EOC 2.1:

  • Enhance Enterprise Summary Tile "Basic Mode" filters and provide additional tile customization options.
  • Allow Users to add additional resources to Enterprise Summary Views
  • Provide new advanced Summary Resources (Example: General Top XX Resource)

Download and install EOC 2.1 to get these features today.  I'm removing them from the What We're Working On!
