Is there such a thing as the ‘Comprehensive Manual for DPA for SQL Server’ ? A document, guide or manual that covers DPA For SQL Server from top to bottom leaving nothing unexplained. I’ve already inquired with DPA Support about this and the answer is to redirect me back to the same webpage at their site with the DPA Admin Guide and Installation guide and so on, none of which are comprehensive. There are many guides, white papers and similar documents about DPA on SolarWinds Resources page for DPA however each of these deals with some specific feature or functionality within DPA. The DPA Admins guide covers installation, getting started and even has a troubleshooting section but at only 51 pages (for the pdf version) most of which are images there’s no way it could possibly detail everything about DPA. If SolarWinds hired a new employee who was tasked with teaching DPA For SQL Server classes and the new employee had no prior knowledge of DPA but had worked with SQL Server for many years and was familiar with competing SQL Server monitoring systems then they would be somewhat familiar with SolarWinds DPA For SQL Server but they would still need a comprehensive guide on the product and that’s what I’m trying to find. EXAMPLE: Sessions – The sessions tab in DPA shows the sessions captured for the specified date/time but what exactly is a session in DPA? The terms session and connection are often treated as synonyms but they are 2 different things. How would someone switching to DPA for SQL Server from a competing SQL Server monitoring application know if DPA treats a session the same or differently as the product they were using? I have to believe that there has to got to be a head to toe guide for DPA For SQL Server somewhere. Thank you
