**Please see SolarWinds Certified Professional program changes for 2019 for program updates.**
The SolarWinds Academy is excited to announce the official launch of the new and completely updated SolarWinds Certified Professional® program.
Based on the feedback from SCPs around the world, we focused on two key aspects of the program that needed attention: creating lasting value for SCPs and helping SCPs succeed.
We want to create lasting value.
We created the SCP program in 2009 because we knew our customers wanted to demonstrate that they have the skills needed to manage networks effectively using SolarWinds products. Unfortunately, as time passed, the program did not grow with our products. The SolarWinds certification became outdated, and did not hold enough value to be a competitive player on the global IT stage.
To create lasting value, we made two key changes:
We want IT professionals to feel pride and a sense of achievement at becoming an SCP.
We want our customers to succeed.
Our customers’ success drives everything we do. Because the world of IT is always growing and changing, continuing education is an integral part of being a successful IT pro. To encourage continued growth, we added several benefits that members can use to increase their knowledge.
New benefits include:
Single exam option
Your certification is active as long as you are a subscription** member and attend required events/training
Same benefits as year one, plus:
*Only includes exams that are part of the new SCP program.
**Your subscription does not auto-renew

That's interesting. I've previously asked a couple support specialists the same question. They haven't heard about how an SCP is flagged in their system. I'm hoping the SCP process has since been developed and communicated.
Is there anything in Thwack for SCPs yet?
Just wanted to pass along my experience with PSIExams online so far. So I register an account on Friday and signup to take the NPM test at 0900 EST this morning. I log back in after getting the e-mail to verify everything works, and it does, so I log out thinking everything is good. At around 0800 this morning, I decide to login and verify my computer configuration meets their requirements but my PASSWORD DOESN'T WORK! No problem, I think. I'll just change it through their system and log in for my test prior to the start time so I request a password change and they send me an e-mail. I change my password and think I'm good to go but I CAN'T LOGIN WITH MY NEW PASSWORD! Oh Noooo! So I try another password change and IT DOESN'T WORK EITHER! Now I'm starting to get worried that I'm gonna miss the exam, so I dig around and find the number for PSIExams (it's 1-800-211-2754) and speak to a rep that I can hardly understand who verifies my information, finds my account (and notes that I'm scheduled for an exam at 0900) and then requests for me to send him a screen shot of my login issue. I tell him the error I'm getting thinking he'll just reset my password, but I'm told that he can't and that I'll need to send the e-mail. So I send the e-mail with the screen shot and get an e-mail back saying that my issue has been escalated and someone will be contacting me in 24-48 hours to resolve my issue and because my case has been escalated I will be able to reschedule my exam. Really? cal.smith I must admit that in all my years of taking certification exams, this was a first for me but then again this was a first for taking an exam at home from my computer as well. I'm hoping that everything goes smoothly from here on out but, honestly, I'm not getting the warm and fuzzies.
Thank you for your feedback! Sharing your experience helps us make the SCP program better.
I will pass your feedback on to PSI and see if we can remedy the issue and provide better service in the future.
Unfortunately, the situation hasn't been much better. It's been over 48 hours since my case was escalated and so I called PSIOnline (800-211-2754 Opt 2, 4) and waited on hold for a total of 40 minutes. When I finally talked to someone, I was told they sent me a response on the 23rd (my original testing date), not attached to the case telling me to login to https://home.psiexams.com and I should be able to get in. Well I looked through my e-mail and didn't see this message so I asked them to resend it. Fortunately, I was able to login this time with my original credentials and when I asked them how this could be, they said I was trying to login to the wrong site. I then explained that when I received the e-mail showing that I scheduled the exam, there wasn't any link in there to access the exam other than a link to do a compatibility check and obtain the screen share extension for google chrome. I advised him that I needed my account reset so I could schedule the exam at no charge and also get my retake option as well and he was confused by this. He told me they would have to research this and get back to me in 24-48 hours AGAIN!! So I'm now wondering how the retake option is supposed to work? Can that be explained and added to the FAQ? Currently my account shows Absent for the Test which was supposed to be corrected based on the escalation of my ticket SLR004802570 so I'm hoping that someone from SolarWinds can intervene with PSIOnline and get this corrected because when I went to register again, they were trying to charge me but I have good news, as I was typing this they just called me and gave me a voucher code so I could reschedule the test. They will get back to me on the retake option after they research it but hopefully I won't need it. I would still ask though that PSIOnline add the login link to the Scheduling e-mail so folks don't get confused like I did. The correct URL to take the test once you've registered is https://home.psiexams.com. If it wouldn't have been so early in the morning and I would have thought to go back to the link I used to register (Register for SCP exam in PSI - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support ) I probably would have been fine. Hopefully, getting this information out to the community will help someone else avoid the confusion and aggravation that I've experienced. I haven't enjoyed being 'that guy'. LoL
To follow-up on this, I went to PSI Online - One stop Solution for Test Takers and clicked Login which takes you to a https://cas.psionline.com URL to present your username and password. My RoboForm Password manager saved that link for me to login and when I just tried it again, I received
When the proctor says clean desk, they really mean it. Everything had to go.
And halfway through the exam he complained that I was reading a question and moving my mouth. It was silent, but I was moving my mouth and he didn't like it. Well, it was a difficult question to understand :).
It's scary stuff. Big brother really is watching us.
All these measures by the proctor are done to maintain the security of our exams. A clean desk means no chance of reading or taking notes. I know it may be awkward to be asked to not read aloud, especially for those of us who do it without realizing (myself included), but that is done to prevent testers from reading the questions aloud to a companion who then takes notes.
Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us!
We had our first study hour on April 27th. You can join us for the next one on May 11th. You should have received information about GNS3 after you passed an SCP exam. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you did not. Our advanced online training is in the works and we're excited to release the first course as soon as it's ready.
Whelp, I did it.
I took the NPM SCP exam and passed.
I figured I can't truly pass judgement on the new SCP program until I've experienced it. This time next year when the renewal is due, I'll be able to make a sound decision if the $200/year is truly worth it.
Not bragging but, just for reference I briefly went over the sample questions listed here (Certification FAQs - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support ) to get a feel for the test format and took the exam without any additional studying to gauge my knowledge. I STRONGLY recommend going over those questions a few times before taking the exam. I'm not going to lie, it was challenging. Certainly more challenging than the original SCP.
I just completed the exam and Passed (subject to confirmation). I'm not going to lie, I was expecting it to be easier having heard about the old-style exams. The way it is proctored now should give new certifications a bit more credibility.
I've searched high and low for a bit more info on this: Can I get a copy of a Certificate? And if so, how? Apologies if this has been answered somewhere obvious. If it has, I will report for remedial search tool training!
