thwack Monthly Mission - March 2015

Community Manager

You are about to embark on a journey into the deepest enigma of scientific discovery—the cosmos. Join the likes of Stephen Hawking, Carl Sagan, Kip Thorne, Arthur Dent, and Buzz Lightyear on your own epic odyssey that is sure to reveal great insights. But you won’t be alone in your quest for enlightenment. Partnering with you on this trek is the AppStack dashboard! You can now bring into focus all aspects of Server & Application Monitor, Virtualization Manager, Web Performance Monitor, and Storage Resource Monitor.

As with all missions through uncharted discoveries, you will encounter technical and performance issues along the way. Your AppStack dashboard is equipped with all the valuable features such as mouse hovers, relevant links for object names and details, and real-time status updates. You will also have useful contextual details of the numerous object types that participate in the AppStack, including node details, application details, LUN details, why a towel is the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Okay, maybe not that last one, but Don’t Panic, there are plenty of other resources for that information.

This month’s thwack® mission is a fun way to find answers to probing questions and get acquainted with your AppStack dashboard at the same time. The mission is simple, use your AppStack dashboard to reveal the clues and answer the questions. Remember, there is plenty of fun, fabulous prizes, and thwack points to be had.

March Mission

Roll up your sleeves, sit at the helm of your AppStack dashboard, step off the planetary beachhead into the orbital void, and use all of the features at your disposal to complete March’s thwack mission: “Planet of the Apps!”.  This month, make sure you answer each of the daily questions because we're giving away some BIG prizes at the end of each week!  In addition, if you correctly answer all 20 questions over the course of the month you'll be entered to win the grand prize: an Alienware® Gaming Laptop!

Mission Rules

  1. A new question will open every day (Monday - Friday) starting on March 2nd.
  2. Once a question has opened, it will remain open until March 27th @ 11:59pm CST. Check the schedule below for exact open/close times.
  3. Correctly answer all 5 questions within a given week and be entered to win that week's prize (see schedule below).
  4. Correctly answer all 20 questions over the course of the month and be entered to win a Dell Alienware Gaming Laptop.
  5. 150 points are being awarded for each correctly answered question.  There are 20 questions which means you can earn a maximum of 3,000 points for this mission.
    1. Points/badges will be added to profiles once the mission has closed.
  6. Weekly prize drawings will be held on the Monday following the close of the week (i.e. week 1's drawing will be on March 9th).
  7. Grand prize drawing will be held on March 31st.

Best prizes yet...!

Level 17

Whoa! I'm guessing we need to get all of these Questions Correct!!! Stoked!

Level 12

Agreed wluther

Better check those answers twice...

Level 20

yeah... that fear of that one question with 2 answers too alike o.O!  So far so good today though!!!

The alienware laptop, DLP projector, and all of the prizes are really legit!  Thanks Danielle!

MVP
MVP

these types are much better - have to be really sure of the answer before submitting.

Level 11

It said I was entered to win after only one question. Is it one entry per correct answer or per week? Thanks for clarifying.

Level 13

Just twice? I WANT that alienware!! In fact, I want all of these prizes! Is it against the rules to win all five? (If I win all five after I said this, I'm going to die, if y'all don't kill me first!)

MVP
MVP

kevincrouch4‌ yeah, if you win all five, you will surely be eaten alive by a nerd herd.

For you kevincrouch4‌, it's against the rules to win, period.

... now where did I put my "Thwack Mission Rulebook - Not Kevin Crouch edition"...

Level 17

Let's do this.

Level 20

You have to answer all 5 days correct to be in drawing for that weeks prize.

It says:  "Correctly answer all 5 questions within a given week and be entered to win that week's prize (see schedule below)."

For the grand prize you have to get every question correct.

Level 20

no surprises so far! 3 days good.

Level 10

Boo! Im from Australia so not eligible.

Aussies always get left out!!

Level 13

Bro, win, tell them you're in the US, have them ship it to someone you know in the US's address (I'm sure any number of us would be happy to receive them) and just get them shipped forward to Aus. It wouldn't be cheap, but I would GLADLY pay plenty for some of these prizes

Buut, ThackMasters, don't pay any attention to that

Level 17

If I were an Aussie, I'd find a PO Box in some area, close to someone... who may be able to pick it up, and ship it out...

but not me.. who has time for that mess. SMH, just let them play.

Level 10

Hope South East Asia region will be eligible too for the prizes on the sweepstakes.

Level 14

Hi guys, Day 5 - answered it correctly, got confirmation & the promise of 150 points , but two screens worth of the confirmation with one confirmation frame below the other. I refreshed F5 & it repainted the doubled response again. Oooops

Level 12

The problem lies with local legislation for some countries that makes drawing the winners and sending the prizes a PITA. I've seen some places where you don't have the right to do a contest of skills (the Thwack Missions could arguably be considered contests of skills). There's also some laws on lottery where Solarwinds would need to have some kind of permit to do the drawing...

Like your relationship status on FB :"It's complicated".

Level 17

Now I am hungry. I like warm pita.

pita.jpg

Interesting, I actually set a relationship status... that must have been a joke. Bureaucrats always get in the way of someone's fun.

Just a Picture in honor of day 4's question - meant to get it posted yesterday....

SolarWinds_Orion_the_cat.jpg

Same here.

Level 12

A warm pita is a lot more desirable than a warm PITA... ouch...

When I said "your" relationship status, I meant everyone's or anyone's status, not yours, cahunt... let's keep Thwack professional.

Level 16

robertcbrowningtomiannelli‌ that was a glitch in our platform used for these missions. It's fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out, btw!

Level 16

Now I want some hummus to go with all that pita!

Level 12

Hummus !? Nah... cut that in wedges, separate the two layers, oil both sides of the layers, spice to taste with your choice of salt, pepper, and herbs and cook on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper until crispy... perfect home made chips !

Ok folks... enough about pita bread. Who is planning on winning the Oculus VR from answering this week's questions?! Have any of you checked out what that thing does?

Level 17

Yeah, I think life will cease for at lease a week after I win.

Level 17

Chick Pea Mush is so good!

I have seen what they can do. I am feeling very lucky this week, wait drawing is Monday. Well hopefully I will feel lucky then too.

I figure tomorrow's my B'day so what a nice present it would be.....

Level 12

5/5, that thing is mine !!!

Level 12

My birthday is on Sunday, even closer to the drawing, I guess it says it all...

Level 7

Kind of new to the monthly missions.  I'm not seeing the points posted to my profile, is that correct?

MVP
MVP

cbongard‌ Point are awarded after the monthly mission/contest closes... usually first week of following month.

Level 7

wluther - Thank you for the clarification!  Do you also know if there is a way to confirm you answered all the questions?  I'm doubting myself...ha!

MVP
MVP

cbongard‌ Usually, if you have already taken the survey, and you click on the link again, the page will tell you that you have already taken the survey. (unless, of course, you clear your cache, or login from a different IP)

Also, you can send maria.bungau‌ or DanielleH‌ a dm, or ask here, and they are pretty good about getting back, and verifying stats(when they are not swamped with spammers, or off globetrotting ).

If all else fails, you can usually just open up a different browser, or clear history/cache, login to thwack, and take them all again just to be sure... though, your first response is what they will go by.

nickzourdos‌ Thanks for that... good start to my day, today...

Level 14

You using RedHat nickzourdos‌ ?

Good ol' Windows

Looks like my DNS isn't translating properly for some reason though. Maybe it's some new version of IPv6 that isn't limited to hex characters

Level 12

It is pretty amazing. Actually, the prizes this month are all spectacular. You folks really outdid yourself this time.

Level 20

Put ur phone in and VR headset is yours!

MVP
MVP

Keeping my fingers crossed for the prize drawing....

Level 20

And if you don't win and are still interested in phone VR on a budget check it out:

Get Cardboard – Google

My favorite are from I AM Cardboard - Be Virtually Anyone You Want To Be ! They have many versions sizes and with various features!  They have spun of this cool kickstarter campaign as well that looks cool:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1040005785/xg-virtual-reality-headset

The oculus vr is the original super nice setup though!

Good luck everyone... Can't wait to see who wins this week I got them all correct too!

Level 13

(Full disclosure I've been binge watching Parks and Rec for a couple days)

I would literally kill someone for that alienware laptop. Although I want that Pocket Projector really bad, too!

Level 16

So, who wants to know the winner of the Oculus VR? The lucky one is ... sflynn‌. Congrats!

Congratulations @sflynn!
