THWACK Monthly Mission - September 2019

Community Manager
1908_thwack_SeptemberMission_900x300.png

Each application performance monitoring (APM) product is its own powerhouse—a force to be reckoned with. With all the products combined—Pingdom®, AppOptics, Loggly®, and Papertrail— though, unimaginable strength of the APM suite can be unleashed. And in the right hands, that power can be used for ultimate good.

Go on a mission to find and collect the all-powerful APM suite stones. Once you have them all, you’ll have the power to protect yourself and your organization, not to mention the world, from application disasters with unified visibility into systems performance and laser focused troubleshooting through metrics, traces, logs, and the user experience.

AppManagers, UNITE!

Yay New mission!!

Fingers crossed for the hoverboard, i haven't been to A&E (ER) for a while.

Level 9

Out of work with a broken foot the next however long it takes the silly thing to heal, so I'll let you have it if I win!

Level 11

Thats fine, you take the hover board... I'm holding out hopes for the Captain Americano machine!

Level 10

Hopefully I win something this time around

Snap of the fingers!

Level 12

WOOT new mission with some really kewl prizes again

Level 11

Odd wording for question #1.  Makes it sound like you are asking me how I do it.

Level 9

Imagine how silly it'd be to have the Infinity Gauntlet on your desk. With a snap of my fingers half of all tickets are gone.

Level 9

Very Interesting info to learn and understand about Solarwinds

Level 9

How the "F" can an opinion question be counted wrong?!!!!!

Level 11

I had the same issue, then I read the hint article more closely and found the question pulled almost word for word in there.

Level 12

The hint isnt working for me, could be network *SHOCK* but nothing is coming up.

Is it me?

Level 10

The hint worked for me.

Level 8

New mission with no prizes, Oh boy

This is the link to the hint: https://www.loggly.com/docs/dynamic-field-explorer/ It's working for me, but don't want to assume

Level 9

I'm fairly certain I answered the 10th question correctly but it got counted wrong. I found the answer word for word in the article. I'm not sure what I did wrong unless I accidentally clicked the wrong answer. It doesn't show me what I clicked but ????

Level 12

working now

Level 9

Question.jpg

I think I may have a good chance of getting this right today 🙂

Level 7

today's question not complete"""

Level 14

Q4 was not as challenging as some of them. I didn't even have to do much research.

Level 7

it is incomplete

MVP
MVP

I felt like it was a trick question and I would not get it right!

Level 8

Question 1 was posed as a poll question. The question asked "How do you ensure production data is never used in a development or test environment?" I answered the question as asked. If the question was referencing how SolarWinds ensures production data, then the question should have been "How do WE...."

Ha! I have made it markedly more difficult..

Level 9

This is what I get since two days

Level 13

I can't seem to find today's answer anywhere. It is not on the hint page and I found what I thought was the answer on the pricing page of Pingdoms side and got todays answer wrong!

Level 10

It's on the page linked in the hint. Just camouflaged a bit.

Level 13

Is it?

Level 12

I finally found it. It is the only time mentioned on the page from what I could tell.

Level 13

Any chance we can get a do-over on today's question?  yumdarling

yes it is

Hey Joshua!

Right now, we haven't reached the threshold of incorrect answers to correct answers for me to be able to consider resetting... BUT! I will keep an eye out on the numbers and comment here if we're resetting.

Yum

Level 12

I dont know what it is today but I cannot find the answer in the hint page

Level 12

I dug around in the support docs for 8-10 minutes and could not find the answer.  I found a few pages that said what the 'recommendation' was, but no more details on what was possible.  Anyone that has a trial might be able to see what is possible in the WebUI.

Level 9

It's in there, I promise.

Level 12

Got it correct - found the "area"

Level 9

Glad to hear it.

Level 8

Is there a good comparison of Pingdom vs WPM? Anyone use both and have a preference?

Looks like both products offer synthetic transaction monitoring which is what we are looking for.

Level 14

Have used WPM but found it couldn't handle certain authentication pop up boxes.  That ment we couldn't use it to run automated login checks against some of our websites to ensure that they were running.  Solarwinds couldn't seem to get to the bottom of the problem.  That was just over a year ago so it may have been resolved by now but I changed jobs so am not there any more to check.

Level 14

Half ?

Show some ambition man !!!!

Level 12

dilbert1234 I don't necessarily have a good comparison, but my understanding is that Pingdom is a SaaS solution and the transactions come from  multiple locations across the world (you can select from the locations they provide.) WPM is something you install and the transactions originate within your Intranet. You would install pollers outside of your Intranet but you might as well go with Pingdom at that point.

Level 10

Do we still get points for the correct answers?

Level 9

I tink it should be "third word of the SECOND Pingdom DYK".

But with the first described three words from AppOptics DYK, Loggly DYK and Papertrail DYK you cant go wrong.

Level 9

Well, I don't agree with the answer for today's question. I agree with hroesch01. Pity that I saw his comment too late.

Level 9

Ha, I enjoyed the throwback to the 90's computer games' check-the-manual anti-piracy measures there today.  Any chance of a dial-a-pirate based question next week then?

Level 11

I spent a good five minutes thinking the same thing, posed more or less the same comment, then saw here...

It is too early... I need coffee!

Level 13

I really don't get today's question.  The first Pingdom DYK is:

We just released a new version of the Pingdom API.  Version 3.1 has improved security, simplified implementation, and maintenance.

The 3rd word is "released".  This makes all answers wrong.

Level 10

My nerves are shot on Q10. I did get the green check and it really only took a minute, but still.

Can't say I learned anything from Q10.
