THWACK Monthly Mission - November 2019

You lean back in your chair and close your eyes, imagining a clear blue sea, dazzling white sand, and endless palm trees. Next to you, there’s a small table with a slushy drink inside of an umbrella-topped pineapple. You can almost feel the soft breeze wafting against the back of your neck. Welcome to Help Desk Paradise.

Here, service requests automatically turn into alerts or tickets. Ticket status, customer satisfaction, and tech performance metrics are all in one place, up-to-date, and organized. And the best part is, no matter where you are or where your end users are, your integrated help desk makes resolving tickets a (tropical) breeze.

SolarWinds can deliver you to Help Desk Paradise. On-premises or in the cloud, it’s your deployment choice. Both options have features and functionality to simplify handling help desk requests. Plus, with the seamless integration of remote support software, both solutions will have you enjoying paradise without ever leaving your desk.

If you accept this mission, you’ll compare and contrast the two options, and learn more about which help desk makes sense for you.

Choose a ticket to your destination. Whether you go cloud-based or stay on-premises, with these options, you’re on your way to Help Desk Paradise.

Start your mission.

"At the time that I wrote that....there were more than two answers.  I've since found out the answers were adjusted and now there are only two correct answers.

But C is technically correct.   "Single-tenant solutions tend to be more secure since data is separated"  This is factually correct statement and I am not sure why it was removed from the correct answer list."

I chose this as an answer and got it wrong.

Level 10

Yes, like I said, the answers have been adjusted and C is no longer correct in 'Thwack Management's' eyes....even though C is a correct statement.

Around 8:30 EST this morning, I chose all three and got it correct.

Level 11

Clearly, all three are valid, correct answers even if some are shaded in a negative connotation. The real question that has nothing to do with reality is what does the Thwackinator want you to select to get the green check?

I have not answered and don't intend to do so until there is some clarity.

Level 10

I can tell you with 100% certainty that as it stands currently, the way to get a green check mark is with two answers, not three.

I just don't agree with it

Level 9

I did the same. It is FACTUALLY correct. Maybe Solarwinds will reset the answers?

Level 9

While I still think it's maybe poorly worded, it's not always true that separating data is inherently more secure. Security comes from access.

Level 10

Correct, but a multi-tenant solution will always have higher access counts compared to single-tenant solution.

Not to mention the answer says "tend to be more secure" and not "always".

Hi friends!

Please use the hint to answer today's questions, the question was written in correlation to the hint. The answers are there (I tried and was able to find them).

IF YOU HAVE A GRIPE. Please DM me and let's have a conversation.

Thanks friends,

Yum

Thanks, Yum.  I think where people are getting hung up is the existence of an answer that is factually accurate yet incorrect.  Not griping, mind you, just pointing out that in the future, it might behoove the question writers to avoid this by making sure that incorrect/wrong answers are not factually accurate.  It throws off those of us who tend to look for answers in other places besides the hints.  I know, I know; "Whoever strays from the path of prudence comes to rest in the company of the dead." but then we get told by society to "color outside the lines".  Definitely mixed messages in this world today.

Thanks for all you and the other GEEKS do for us THWACKsters!

Level 12

So after the reset, I think the question is worse than it was previously. Now the incorrect message makes it sound as if there is only one correct answer.

Level 10

Does anyone know when the next mini-mission starts?

Hey George!

No mini mission this month. Next mission is in December

Yum

Level 13

I agree with previous sentiments, it I didn't find Nov 15 answer in the clue.

It seems in a few Q&A, the answers depend on people finding the answer in the clue, and not valid information from other Solarwinds resources.

It seems in a few other Q&A, the answers depend on people finding valid information from Solarwinds resources other than what is given in the clue.

I wish there was a consistency. Not sure what part of my personality it conflicts with, but the inconsistency just feels... not sure the right word... maybe "unfair"... or maybe "arbitrary".

But otherwise, I like the monthly missions. Thanks yumdarling and other Thwackonators for putting these together.

DOH! Still got it wrong

Level 12

This is a good one. Like the options it brings to support the enterprise.

Level 9

Every answer to today's question is technically correct. I wonder how many people will test it and ask for a reset.

Level 15

>200 = yes/no?, >0 = yes/no?, >25 = yes/no?, >13 = yes/no?

Level 9

bobmarley I don't think anything is malicious, but sometimes it does seem like the questions are intentionally designed to mess with people who are overly pedantic or tough for non-native English speakers to interpret.

Level 14

'Non-native English speakers'.  Does that include Amurkins.

How do you figure that every answer is technically correct, msinger?  The answer is clearly there at the top of the hint and it says (and this is what it says now, so if it said something different earlier, then I take this all back) "over" a certain number, not less than or less than/equal to.  Help me (and others) to understand your logic, please.

Level 9

"Service Desk integrates with over _______ cloud applications to enhance your help desk's capabilities."

If Service Desk integrates with over 5 million cloud applications, it also integrates with over 0 cloud applications.

The answer they're looking for is obvious from the hint, but all of the answers are correct.

MVP
MVP

I believe they are looking for the most correct answer.

Oh, Peter, you done it again!  Made me smile big!  It is true that we "Amurkins" do speak "Amurkin English" and not "The King's (or Queen's) English" but since "English" - whichever flavor you like - is a Germanic language, then aren't we all "non-native"?  I found this article and, sorry to say for the Brits, "Amurkins" are the largest population of "Native English speakers" with 231 million.  Britain is second with 60 million.

The article goes into the four differences between the US and UK "native" tongues, citing vocabulary, spelling, grammar and numbers/measurement.  I have noticed that some in Britain are switching to the US Customary measurement system over Metric, but I think "Metres, Litres, and Grams" will still be widely used (and yes, a nod to the British spellings, there, my friend! ;-).

Thanks for the grin, petergwilson!  You made my day!

Ah, I see...you are correct.  I had in my head less than, not greater than.  Thanks.

Level 10

Level 14

Glad I made you smile.  I must be old though.  I still think in feet, inches, miles, pints etc.  (especially pints  -  usually of good english warm beer).  Although, to be fair, I'm just back from Bordeaux where I was drinking lots of red wine.  Still in pints though      .

Question number 22 must be multiple choice but rather it provided me with a single option to choose and when i selected the best one it marked the response as incorrect.

Level 12

@yumdarling I could be wrong, but I think Q15 is meant to be multiple choice?

Level 9

The question is correct for me....

Three possible answers or ALL the above

Level 9

The question and answers are absolutely written correctly. People saying they aren't need to read the answers more carefully and maybe think.

Level 8

Me too!

Thanks Faz! I fixed it not multiple choice, but close

Level 12

And people making smart-a** answers need to realise that the answers were updated before they saw them. But thanks anyway.

Level 9

Nope, it was updated after I answered it correctly, but thank you, "smart-ass" is what I was going for.

Level 12

/me rolls the virtual dice (If I had the solar winds D&D dice..........)

Come on baby daddy needs that massage chair

Level 12

I remember reading about the November 27th question but wanted to confirm.  This link might be of help.

Level 10

How many people are going to miss answering the last two questions due to the US Thanksgiving Holiday?

Level 12

I know I am going to miss them

Level 11

I plan on logging in even though I'll be flying part of it. I going to be flying to the UK on Friday to help with a data center move.

Level 10

Some questions are hard!

Level 10

I plan to log in from home over the next couple of days to answer the questions. Don't miss out on those points. I am still saving up for a jacket. I have 1330 points to go. I hope I can hit that number before it gets too cold. I want to be stylin' in a SolarWinds jacket before winter sets in.

I hope you all log in from home to get your points too. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Level 12

Q.19 hint link is broken - this is the droid you're looking for: Help Desk Software - Service Desk Software | Web Help Desk

Almost as bad, Question 19 doesn't make sense as a sentence.  One can almost guess what it's supposed to say, but not with 100% certainty.

Level 9

Be careful with the question today people. I suspect it will catch some of you out.

Level 8

I did the mission shortcut last month, but I don't see the credit in my account for completing. Did anyone else do the mission shortcut, and did you get entry? How long do the shortcuts usually take to appear?

Level 12

yumdarling Question 19 Hint link isnt working

Level 9

Question 19 Hint link --------> Help Desk Software - Service Desk Software | Web Help Desk <-----  Hint link.

Happy Thanksgiving

Level 9

yumdarling This is the first monthly mission i've taken part in. Whats is with Q20?? I might be able to make sense of it if the link worked....
