THWACK Monthly Mission - May 2020

Community Manager

2004_thwack_maymission_take2_900x300_nocta.png

We’ve talked before about how frustrating it can be to be the problem solver in a company, the if-I’m-doing-my-job-right-you-forget-I-exist, tirelessly-working-on-maintaining-your-productivity, but-actually-pretty-tired IT professional. You’ve been called upon just as you are for every emergency and hyperbolic fire, and—par for the course—you’re stepping up and leading the charge.

This month, we want to spend time on what communities across the globe are doing best: giving back. We’re increasing rewards and slashing store prices throughout the month of May.

Level 9

@yumdarling How long are the SCP vouchers valid for?

Level 12

Wow, nice Mission. Pinch me, is this a dream 🙂

Level 10

That's great news about the vouchers. I've put it in the cart but it won't let me check out.

Hey friends!

We've found a little error with the SCP vouchers in the store.

We're working on fixing it right now.

I'll write back here when they're live again!

Dedicated to your success,

@yumdarling

 I'm not seeing any questions. Am I doing something wrong? I see a link that says sign up for free that takes me to a page that doesn't exist. I'm logged in with my account already. I see the below but no questions.

@dbinsc

Do you see the mission shortcut in the black block?

The questions should appear after that.

Can you take a screenshot and email me? Yum.darling@solarwinds.com

Thanks!

I don't have any of those applications in production at the moment and if you don't either might I suggest you go to the GWC site and donate what you can. https://girlswhocode.com/

Level 11

Freakin' Sweet (said in Peter Griffin's Voice) Cant wait for the voucher!!!

Level 9

Can anyone clarify how long the voucher is good for? I'd like to grab it at the discount price but I'd like to know if I have a month or a year or something in between to study for it. 🙂

We're working on some last minute dev fixes for the SCP voucher to successfully finish the store checkout process. It will be good for 6 months after purchase.

1 hour video to listen too 😞

Level 9

They mentioned firewalls and such around the 24min mark.  But to be honest I sorta zoned out and didn't catch anything about specifically mentioning least important metrics.  Might give it another go this afternoon if things get quiet enough.

Level 9

I skipped through and they mention bits at 18min and 24min but neither really help with the question.

Level 14

I also did not see where they highlighted the answer.  I can't devote that much time this morning to that video though.

Level 9

Not enough data in the video to answer the question. Also I do not have time to sit through a one hour video to find the answer to this question.

Level 8

Level 12

I know I zoned out a bit here and there while listening to the vid, but I didnt really anything towards today's question.  While reading above I dont think I am the only one.

MVP
MVP

I located the section that mentions the topic in the slidedeck...but there was no real discussion pertaining to the question as presented.

As others have mentioned, I don't have time to sit through an hour of video.

Level 8

3 of the 4 items are talked about between min 24 and about min 30.  I think if you watch that section you'll see that one of them is obviously not talked about.  The points don't exactly match to the way the options are worded, but they are there.

Level 12

They did mention two firewall items that are important, but I didn't hear any mention of "least important".

Level 11

Today's question is rather easy. I'give you a hint if I can just get my MEMORY to work 🙂

Level 9

Seems like alansmith has a pretty good memory.

Level 11

@hnieman 🙂 not from what I've heard 🙂

Level 12

I loved the first three questions, but don't feel thanked or appreciated with the forth question 😁. Thanks @alansmith for listening closer than I could in the video.

Level 11

@jfaldmo any time.

Level 12

Day4 = echo rand(1, 4);

Level 10

For question 5, while it can be obvious without a video, you can also find it on the video starting at around 4:10 or something like that and watch for a minute or so.

Level 10

I wonder why they stopped giving the important time mark for videos in the hints.

I was about to post it here but see tigerr beat me to the punch.

Level 13

Thwacksters, Thursday's question is asking about the least important metric for firewalls. I got it wrong because I answered on the most important, which would have been the VPNs (most important). I didn't hear anywhere in the video where they talk about what the least important metric is to firewalls.

Level 10

Week 2 Question 7

when trying to select Go TO VOTE, I receive the following:

-_-_1-1589241016331.png

Level 10

@ebradford

The answer for the least important metric is not literally stated. However, it is a valid as they do talk about what metrics are important.

You can, by process of elimination, obtain the right answer. The part of the video where they start talking about it starts at the 24 minute mark.

Level 12

Week 2 Question 7

This is the URL for the vote, to get around the link error in the vote button:

MVP

I also got the big red invalid set of parameters has been specified in the URL.

So just waiting for the Admins of Thwack to correct the URL so we can proceed.

Level 9

Hi,

@yumdarling

For day 7 question when clicking on go to vote getting below error.

me thinks something is amiss!

Level 9

I believe this is the correct link for today's survey:

Have You Taken a Virtual SolarWinds Academy Class Before?

MVP

I will validate the link provided by @gcp  and @tsadler  will take you to the survey and after taking the survey if you return to the mission page and refresh it, it will show the activity for the day is complete.

Thanks for catchin' that, friends! Feel free to shoot me a DM if something like this is messed up in the future.

All fixed now.

Level 9

Well, that was not how I wanted to open my week! Read the hint, re-read the hint, double checked the question and re-re-read the hint.  Probably a lack of caffiene-infused-magic this morning; but I'm still not sure what the answer should be this morning, and what I did enter was right either.  Better luck everyone else!

Level 9

@rob.collinsand everyone else... read the first paragraph carefully in the hint for this one! 😉

Level 9

Doh! @tsadler Thanks for the hint to the hint - still took me another 3 re-reads to notice I'd magic'd one of the answers into the hint when it's clearly not there.  Evidently I'll never make it as a proof reader.  Can't beat a good ol bit of end user error though!

May 18th's question asks "What topics will be discussed?"

I'd have accepted a number of answers, based on paragraphs two, three, and four in the hit:

  • How to include what managers, executives, and business operations really want to know
  • The importance of baselines
  • How to start discussions with various business units
  • Who and how to ask questions
  • How to poll business info and display the needed data and present it in useful ways

But although these answer the question, it seems the answers to this one were designed to be discovered with a Ctrl+F instead of actually answering what was asked.  Sigh.  I need more caffeine before I tackle these on a Monday morning.

Level 12

Like @rschroeder I do not believe the provided answer options actually answer the question. The answers should be the ones @rschroeder provided, or the question should be something like "What are typical ways, or forms, monitoring professionals support the business?"

MVP
MVP

I agree with @rschroeder that the first paragragh makes a statement about some topics that are listed but are not mentioned lower when topics that are being discussed are mentioned.  Thus there appears to be a disparity in the question as asked and the answers provided to choose from.

Level 12

Thanks for the hint to today's question @rschroeder! Sometimes the simple answer is the right one...

Level 10

This might be the worst worded question ever.
