THWACK Monthly Mission - June 2019

Community Manager

Upon glancing around the world, everything appears tranquil and peaceful. Data packets are moving quietly behind the scenes and all is well, from the hardware to the presentation. A calm permeates your landscape.

However, there are anomalies, seen just past the corner of your eye. A few artifacts appear on a video call. There’s a subtle shift in audio during a conversation. A hiccough in a data transfer happened one moment and was gone the next. None of these are immediate cause for alarm… or are they? The surface might appear serene, but what insights lie under the façade? Begin our mission to uncover the insights within your NetWorld.

JUNE MISSION

Use the mission’s resources to complete the tasks and answer the questions for a chance to win!

The release notes make the answer far more obvious, however if you are already familiar with NTA at even the most basic level, there is really only one possible choice. The product page for NTA linked in the hint does not highlight the answer as a new feature, it is simply stated as a feature.

Level 9

meyer837 That's exactly where I went too! I got burned a couple months back with a "Well it's obviously this answer" so I double check everything now.

Level 9

Agreed the release notes clearly identify the new support.

Level 10

I think it displays the same message for any wrong answer, giving the same explanation for all of the incorrect responses.

Level 10

Agreed.  The hint link provided for today's question was not helpful in finding the correct answer.

I guess i found it straight forward.  I use NTA, and have for years.   Also i looked at the question and thought self, go with the flow, mmmmmmmm no, netflow, is what it does, i mean that is the point of NTA since the beginning, IPv4 has been around forever so......   Logically hint aside, which was still easy enough to find in the hint, "there can be only one", answer........

Image result for there can be only one

try this link for the release notes:  https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/nta/content/release_notes/NTA_4-6_release_not...

it should be a little more intuitive.

Level 10

Poorly worded question! June 13th question is misleading and the hint does not address what is stated as the correct answer. Even the video does not say that there is "expanded" visibility into what is stated as the correct answer. There is a blurb on the hint page that addresses the "expands visibility" in the question, but "malicious or malformed traffic flows" is not listed as a choice. Please see the screen shots below.

Question

From the hint text.

Please consider, resetting the question, re-writing the question, or just give credit.

Thanks

Level 12

I dont know about you but isnt the answer "42"?

Level 9

I agree - very vague and misleading question.

Level 11

Yes, but then we would need to build another super computer to find out what the actual question was...

Even this page is a better hint: Success Center: Netflow Traffic Analyzer (NTA)

Today's question is not uploaded as yet.

Question 9  is wrongly asked. None of the options are correct . Yesterday i mark option " Go with flows" and it was incorrect. and IPv4 & 6 was showing already feature.

Somehow the answer was reset today , so selected option 3 "Netflow" and again showing incorrect and display msg. IPv4 and Netflow is already a feature.

Strange. I think someone have to look into it.

No points credited for question 10.

fine for me

okay. I might be the exception case for solarwinds. Hope this will be rectify soon.

Level 10

Hi DanielleH Thank you for the reset. Answered the same today and all is well !!

Congratulations mdamico!

Agreed

Level 12

DanielleH I believe today's question should be check boxes and not radio buttons.

Level 10

melonizame As written, check boxes would make this far worse, you don't want "all of the above" as an option for a check box question, that is extremely confusing. Radio buttons are fine here, the only suggestion would be perhaps to remove the "which three" part in the question that pretty much gives away the answer. But honestly, this is an extremely easy question to begin with, so I don't think any changes are really required unless they wish to raise the difficulty.

Level 12

that is true meyer837 but overall something does need to change with question 11

Level 12

Question 11 (June 17th) made me smile. I like it how it is setup. I still looked at the hint and but there is obviously only one correct answer.

Level 9

It looks like we won't have a mission shortcut for this month

By the way, does anyone know where can we find the winner of the monthly mission shortcut ?

Level 13

Congrats alex.west

I'm not sure today's questions (Q12 - Tuesday June 18) line up with the answers correctly. I chose the "right" answers according to the hint but was told I am incorrect. The text box indicated I chose an answer that I did not. I am being deliberately vague as I don't want to ruin this for everyone else.

Happy to provide a screenshot for clarity.

Level 8

It did the same for me.

Level 9

Same for me... I chose the answers according to hint but shows incorrect

Level 7

same for me

Level 8

Same here. Didn't select an answer which it claims I did.

MVP
MVP

Same, paging DanielleH to check if we are genuinely getting it wrong or there is a problem

Level 8

Same for me also

Level 11

Im happy to support a reset of the question, but im not sure it was wrong.  Having selected my answer(s), and reading the statement from the response I don't think I did answer correctly.  The hint does indeed give you selected answers within the question, although it may not be the complete picture required.

Level 9

OK, I answered correctly but the message I received after answering indicated I selected the wrong answer

'Sorry, that is incorrect. SolarWinds NAT Lookup does NOT blahblahblah'

I never selected the 'blahblahblah' though so not sure how I got it wrong...

Has the question just been setup wrong?

Level 10

Exactly the same.

DanielleH Can you confirm if there is something wrong with the options?

Top 3 and last option is correct.

MVP
MVP

Same here.

Level 9

Hmmm, I got it wrong for selecting an option I definitely didn't select?

Level 9

Definitely agree there might have been something fishy with this question. Could have just been a trick question that I didn't read closely enough but I'm pretty sure I did not select an option that said solarwinds did the NAT-ing.

Level 11

same here, I did NOT have the NAT option selected and it said it did.

Level 11

Level 9

It did the same thing to me as well, it said I selected an answer I did not and marked it wrong.

Level 8

ok, I'm not the only one.

MVP
MVP

Did the same to me and marked it wrong.

Level 9

Same here.

Question 12 is setup correctly. If it is showing you answered incorrectly, I'd be happy to look into your amswers. Just let me know.

You do need to read closely on this one.

Level 9

Did the same to me
