Community Manager

We’re all racing to get ahead of today’s distributed environments. You always need to know what’s coming around the next corner. This month, it’s time to push upgrade speed and product performance to the limits. Start your engines and get ready for 4 stages spread out throughout 20 days of questions—and let’s see who will cross the finish line and head to the winner’s circle with insights into tighter integration, greater scalability, and security enhancements.

Use the mission’s resources to complete the tasks and answer the questions for a chance to win!

Correctly answer each question during the week and you'll be entered for a chance to win the weekly prize.

Correctly answer all 20 questions over the course of the month and you'll be entered for a chance to win the grand prize.

150 points are being awarded for each correctly answered question. There are 20 questions, which means you can earn a maximum of 3,000 points for this mission.

A new question will open every day (Monday - Friday) starting on July 6, 2020. Once a question has opened, it will remain open until August 2, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Check the schedule below for exact open/close times.

Complete the mission shortcut between July 6, 2020 and August 2, 2020 to be entered to win JBL FLIP 4 - Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker!

@wilder can you DM me and tell me what you found confusing? I'm trying to understand where the disconnect is.

Well, got my red X for yesterday's questions. I even waited until today because I felt like I was missing something. All 5 answers seemed correct. I ended up assuming it was a small technicality that made one of them wrong.

I went for REST APIs because the linked hint didn't specifically call out external links for APIs, but I guess that was wrong.

I still have no idea which answer was false. 😞

Level 20

Increase in start performance sure sounds good!

Maybe its me, but the answers and hint do not match up at all for today's question. Correct me if I am wrong.

Level 10

@kurtrh I see your point, reading the question and hint multiple times for clarity

Level 10

@johncranen Seeing the screenshot of the Historical Data section was definitely helpful. Thanks for the link!

Level 10

Agreed @userunnown, it was certainly helpful and got it right this time. Thanks!

I found this resource to be a little more useful than the link for today's trivia.

It's not verbatim, but the answers can be picked out with a little "decisive reasoning"

I still haven't found the resource where they are listed specifically.

Level 12

I am going to wait a bit to answer, let fellow THWACKSTER's chime in.

Level 9

Geesh, this month is ruining me. I've never had so many red x's in a month.

Hey friends! Added some extra hints for today's questions.

Also, for those of you still wondering about the July 13th question - I changed the answers to make it less confusing. I'm also willing to offer resets if you need them - just DM me, friends.

Thanks bunches!

SEM has really been coming a long way lately!  Super great work by the UX team and programmers adding much needed HTML5 code and new features!

Level 12

Was thinking the same thing @ecklerwr1

Level 9

Bummer, red X for the 23'rd even after waiting for another day and pouring over the extra hints. Still not quite sure what it even means by normalized data I think is what threw me.

Level 14

Q11's link to TPS reports is absolutely magic 🙂

Level 12

@robertcbrowning I must have missed that, but man I LOVE that movie.

It was so tempting to answer wrong with today's (16) question.  Really needed a laugh this morning.  Thanks

Keep up the GREAT work

earworm - thought of "The day the music died" for some strange reason when I saw the answers to today's question

Cant post link to youtube bc work blocked all access during this COVID-19

"Free Temporary License Key"

When that last guy came onsite to do an upgrade, you would have thought he didn't even work for SolarWinds. All he did was drink our coffee and eat our breakfast tacos. He drug it out for so long that he was still there for lunch tacos.

Level 8

Big red x on a super easy question.  Thats what I get for doing today's question after being called into work at 4am (and also not checking that I clicked all the boxes).  Oh well next month.

@fakeusername I think you may need to up your taco security game.  Maybe we should offer a SolarWinds Lunch Food Monitor (LFM)?  That way you can know if you are running critically low on tacos or any fix-ins. 😁

Back to a serious question.  Who here has done an upgrade to the latest and greatest?  (2020.2 + any HF's)

If so, what was your catalyst for upgrading?

Level 10

@KMSigma I've got an upgrade to the latest and greatest Orion modules on deck for next week. Certainly also interested in hearing if anyone has substantial feedback on it or the process of getting to it (good and bad, not that I expect anything bad🤞).

Our catalyst is getting current. We're running 2019.4 and seeing some of the new features (enhanced volume status, etc.) really got my interest.

Side-note, upgraded SEM today to 2020.2.1 and it is a leaps and bounds improvement from what I've seen so far.

Level 10

@KMSigma - Perhaps we need the Taco Bell Firewall Sauce.

In all seriousness, I am preparing for the upgrade, and I am interested in any gotchas, so thanks for putting the question out there. The last upgrade caught me a little off guard when it needed to create a new database. I had to get our DBA on the line in the middle of the upgrade to take care of that. Since our DBA is currently out on medical leave for the next few weeks, I want to make sure nothing is going to bite me.

@chucksimalchik and @fakeusername I'm not aware of any real blockers for the release.  No new databases (still just one each for Log Analyzer/Manager, NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, and the rest of the Orion products).  There have been a few hotfixes since the initial 2020.2 release, but they should all download and install if you are running the installer online.

If you want to see specifics about the HF's, you can always head over to the Success Center and search for "2020.2 hotfix" to see what's been fixed since GA.  Mostly it's relatively minor things, but I always try to read as much of that before I click "Install."

Also, capture a diagnostic before upgrading.  It was something I got in the habit of and I still recommend.  Nice to have a "before" and "after" if needed.  If you need to know how to do that, I go over it in a Triple-T video.
