THWACK Monthly Mission - July 2020

We’re all racing to get ahead of today’s distributed environments. You always need to know what’s coming around the next corner. This month, it’s time to push upgrade speed and product performance to the limits. Start your engines and get ready for 4 stages spread out throughout 20 days of questions—and let’s see who will cross the finish line and head to the winner’s circle with insights into tighter integration, greater scalability, and security enhancements.

JULY MISSION

Use the mission’s resources to complete the tasks and answer the questions for a chance to win!

Correctly answer each question during the week and you'll be entered for a chance to win the weekly prize.

Correctly answer all 20 questions over the course of the month and you'll be entered for a chance to win the grand prize.

150 points are being awarded for each correctly answered question. There are 20 questions, which means you can earn a maximum of 3,000 points for this mission.

A new question will open every day (Monday - Friday) starting on July 6, 2020. Once a question has opened, it will remain open until August 2, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Check the schedule below for exact open/close times.

@stuartd The winners are listed on the original mission pages. You can still go back to June's page and see the listed winners. SolarWinds also e-mails winners, so if you don't see it on the mission page hopefully it doesn't end up in your spam if you won! 🙂

The Tello quadcopter for week 4 is a nifty little quad.

All you need is your phone or tablet to control it.

You can get a little wifi extender that you plug into a external usb charger...think the solar powered thwack charger pack and a wifi gaming controller for better control/distance.  For a small quad, it has exceptional flight time.

Oddly I am not seeing any of the questions for this month, or the last weeks of last month.

Tried numerous browsers, reset settings, nothing seems to allow me to see the questions. Any ideas?

@trilobite_rex That seems to be what's causing the hidden questions. We're investigating from our end. You can always answer the questions from your phone, too, if you want.

You might check the certificate in use by your browser when viewing the page. If the cert is not from SolarWinds but from another party (likely your employer or their VPN vendor), that may be the issue. You might need to add the corporate certificate to your workstation's certificate store.

This got me hesitating a bit (what's larger: the packets or the bytes?) - but the percentage was the answer.

The challenge with using live demo's for the mission questions is that things can change over time making the "correct" answer truly no longer correct.

Unfortunately, this has been seen before.  The values that @johnl posted do not match what I saw this morning. Thus in that interim labvcenter01 and nocswoape01vs had a chatty conversation skewing the numbers in their favor.

How are we supposed to find the answer if the information is changing?  Is there a certain time frame we are supposed to be looking at instead of the last hour that is defaulting in?

OK - you know when I upgraded to 2019.4  - I noticed that "My Orion Deployment" was lacking, and I really paid not attention .. anyone else have an issue?  I have totally blank screens form Deployment Health, Updates & Evaluations and Diagnostics .. anyone else have this issue?

@yumdarlingcan you steer me in any direction?  I have not had to open a support case since 2014 ... community ... any ideas???  Or .. how about .. where should I post this question to get more visibility?

Hey @zennifer - do you use HTTPS? I've seen those screens fail to load if you only use HTTP.

@Jfrazier - that is why I dislike questions regarding "current stats" on the demo website. It changes based on the day/time and what might be right now is wrong tomorrow or next week or even a few hours.

Luckily I answered it OK last night. I was tempted to post a screenshot of the page as some people do sometimes but wasn't sure if that would be inappropriate or not.

I know what answer today's question wanted, but part of me wants to be pedantic about the fact that one of the options listed doesn't exist.

Bit pedantic on Q4 but it doesn't specify by bytes, packet or percent.  Thus there are two possible answers.  Typically I chose the one you didn't.

Add me to the "Q4 not showing the current correct answer" bandwagon. Looks like the question should be rephrased, maybe to specify a time period. Even if I pick Thursday, the two servers aren't an available answer.

@yumdarling In today's question dynamic backgrounds is not mentioned anywhere in the document but is a correct answer? does this question need amended and reset? or is it just me?

@yumdarling  I disagree with todays answer.  The "correct" answer includes words / phrases that are nowhere to be found in the hint page.  How are we supposed to know that flexible controls = dynamic backgrounds?  They don't sound like the same thing to me.
