Well I already like the prizes and the first question.!!

Wow - these are cool.  I almost missed this one.  And the Lego set was discontinued by Lego so that would be a rare item indeed.

I can't go wrong with a Guardians Of The Galaxy hint--I loved the first movie, and was astounded the sequel was even better (IMHO) than the first.  Sequels that improve on the original are rare, in my experience.

The next episode promises to combine many of the fun teams I've come to enjoy, while they attempt to defeat the plans of the nemesis of the Galaxy.

Shortcut taken and I have to say, mighty impressive!  Got a little hung up on the install of the client, though...until I realized the password it was asking for was established during the "Add Device" process.  😛  That's that whole "If-it-was-a-snake-it-woulda-bit-me!" type a thang!  Boy, howdy is it a Monday!!!

Q2 seems to not be working - I took the correct option and it tells me I got the question wrong - Can someone check that for me? I'm pretty confident I checked the right radio button.

Worked for me

Yup ignore me I can now see that my brain and eyes were not connecting as I selected the wrong button!! Damn it - That will teach me to try and answer questions while performing SQL Maintenance!

Is it just me or does that spaceship look a whole lot like Chester Cheetah?

Have to be careful with this one, I almost clicked the wrong one as well, but caught it on the re-read.

Level 12

The same thing happened to me. The pdf said True Delta, I made sure I checked True Delta as opposed to Truth Delta, but I was marked wrong.

Level 9

Same thing happened. I should have read the comments as well. Selected Truth delta instead of True delta Mission Ruined

Level 10

I selected True Delta and it marked me wrong!

which pdf , i didnt see that

Level 20

It's either embedded or it's not really a pdf... just the hint link.

I had a play with the beta & this seems even simpler. However, I must agree with asheppard970 about the passwords, security code, etc. The purpose of each was not clear until I backed up a second device. I suspect that the pricing might be outside the reach of very small businesses, but perhaps a 'lite' version could be considered for that market. It looks a great product & my screenshot is submitted.

Is Wakenda like Wakanda?

Level 9

It is! My mistake for trusting Wikipedia on spelling.  *making the THWACK sound of a palm to the forehead*

Hint: It's not there, either!  🙂

I completely missed the "Frozen" site reference, and was reminded of Imladris / Rivendel from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and of Earendil from The Silmarillion.

Thwack, you've educated me yet again!  As for my previous lack of knowledge about your cloud-based back-up solution, I sing:  "Let it go!  Let it go!  I can't lose bits anymore.  Let it go, let it go, My data's beyond the door!  I just ran the complete back up, let the disk drive fail--The Cloud has my data anyway!"

Level 9

I love this!  Now I'll have it in my head all day...

Level 12

Darn you Rick! Now how am I going to get any work done while this plays again and again in my head.

I ran the Mission Shortcut this morning and was treated to a lovely 60-minute session with a couple of Solarwinds professionals who gave me the Red Carpet treatment.  Ten minutes after I registered for the cloud service trial, my phone rang:  it was Solarwinds politely and happily calling to offer a friendly assist with the install!  WOW!

They made the new procedure simple and easy; I had back jobs built, equipment backed up, equipment restored--in less than 30 minutes.  And I'm NOT a storage guy--haven't been for 18 years!

Here are some of my notes for sharing with my team and organization:

  • The smallest install license allows up to 50 workstations to be backed up, with a data cap at 2.5 TB.
  • That license for backing up 50 workstations, 2.5 TB, costs $2,829.00 annually.
  • Today (March 14, 2018) there are ~198,000 cloud-based backed-up systems using this solution.
  • Solarwinds uses this solution for their own internal corporate IT  use, and it backs up 400 TB of data.
  • This solution has been available for ten years.  (Funny, I never paid attention to it.  Was there a "cloud" back then?  It probably was known under a different name then.  I'm not a storage guy, so I'm completely out of the loop.)
  • The largest SKU Solarwinds has available today covers:
    • Up to 150 TB total data
    • Up to 1000 servers
    • This SKU covers Support and Storage and Agents for one year for $97,440:00.
    • There are options to restore to bare metal, restore to VM, and restore to AWS.  I'm thinking to myself "Just wow!"
    • Larger SKU's can be developed if you (like my organization) have multiple Pedabytes or Exabytes of storage needing cloud-based backup

Imagine having Ransomware loose inside your organization.  Or imagine someone got into your data or data center and did things you don't like to it.  Or imagine having a fire that caused loss of hardware AND data!

Then imagine being able to restore all 1000 of your servers for only $100K--quickly and efficiently--with this solution.

I was excited, and I'm NOT a fan of the cloud.  It's that cool!

That made me laugh out loud!  Thanks for sharing it.

I can't tell you how many hard drives have gone Tango Uniform (yes, boys and girls, that is a "technical" term!) on me in my tenure at this company.  While we have tried deploying various backup solutions - everything from batch scripts to automated programs - most of them require users to be somewhere OTHER than the field.  Of course, if something happens in the field, well, there you have it: datagone!

I like the fact that this can work over almost any connection and that the DCs are located throughout the world, yes even in Arendelle!  I don't know if we will be able to use it based on the numbers above but thanks, rschroeder, for the insight.

Level 10

I saw it, Googled Arendelle and extrapolated that it wasn't necessarily a serious answer... Couldn't think of anything similar that's been in popular culture recently.

Although, Wakanda hides its huge technological superiority from the world with a guise of backwardsness... Maybe Wakenda has the same deal? (no offense meant to any cow-herding Wakendians, you should see where I come from)

Level 10

The problem with the datacentre in Arendelle is that you can't restore any of your data, since it's Frozen.

Level 12

There is a typo in today's question and a misleading answer that was not in the answer page. Reset please?

Wendy Abbott

Can you share a screen shot of the problem?  I was able to input the correct answer, but that was about 8:15 a.m. USA Central time.  Maybe it was already fixed by then?

Also, I went through the Mission Shortcut (as I noted with my report of the experience above); the answer for today's question was probably made more obvious and intuitive for my Mission Shortcut experience, since I'm not a Storage / Backup guy, and can't claim anything more than common sense for selecting answers for this mini-mission.

Level 9

LocalSpeedVault was spelled LocalSpeedValut in the multiple choice list - I didn't select it but selected all the other applicable options since it was not spelled correctly.....mission ruined.

Level 9

As of 10:30 am US Central it's still misspelled

pastedImage_0.png

Level 8

same here, a little frustrating 😞

MVP
MVP

according to my dyslexia I got it right

Level 9

Yeah, that was dumb.

Ah, I see:  "Vault" versus "Valut".  That one seemed obvious after reading the Hint, but for anyone who is very literal and detail-oriented, "Valut" is not literally a valid answer within the Hint.

I'm too human, and make too many typo's myself; I'm used to giving others the benefit of the doubt, and I tend to read for content instead of picking on spelling.  I'm trying to train myself to NOT jump on spelling errors, although I was personally trained to do so by having two parents and two sisters working as public school system educators.  I confess to having spent time working for the public schools, too, so I recognize the importance of communicating accurately.  And now that I'm in the medical industry, I recognizing even further how a typo can make a big difference in the outcome of a patient's diagnosis and action plan.

Until we all regularly use a good spell-checker for every bit of correspondence, or we all become perfect keyboarders, I'll continue to cut some slack to others who drop periods, who don't use colons where they should be used, or who are unable to follow well-known (or obscure) rules of grammar and spelling.

Level 11

And thanks for using the Oxford Comma, rschroeder!!!

Level 12

The problem with "cutting some slack" on the spelling on this question/answer is that if you go back to Q2 there was another issue that could be considered a spelling issue that could have, and in fact I think did, trip up some individuals with the Truth vs. True.  In that case you had to pay close attention to the spelling in the answer so as not to select the incorrect one.

Otherwise I tend to agree with "cutting some slack" because I know that I am not very good with spelling, punctuation and grammar myself.

I saw the spelling mistake, took the chance and selected it anyway...thankfully lol.

Level 14

ooooo eeerrrrr.  I didn't even notice Q4's spelling mistake What does that make me?
