THWACK [Mini] Mission: Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) and Server & Application Monitor (SAM)

2005_thwack_DPASAM_MiniMission_900x300_nocta.png

The canyons and valleys of Postgres are spread out before you. The world seems like a big place today, what with this new frontier. There’s no way you can do this on your own. You return to the tavern you passed on the way and swing open the doors, scuffing your boots on the hardwood to displace some of the dust. The tavern is what you would expect it to be; dark, with low piano music, people sitting at tables enjoying a beverage on this hot day. The two in the corner catch your eye, their experience is as clear as day.

Next day, you’ve hired yourself two guides; frontiersmen. They know this land and its laws. They know what to expect. The tall one goes by SAM, the stocky one is DPA. Together you set out towards the future. Together, you can discover every aspect of Postgres. Sometimes “together” is exactly what you need.

This should be fun 🙂

Anyone else get an invalid username or password error when trying to follow today's hint.  The user name fills in as Demo.  The password auto populates.  I tried it in Edge and Chrome.

Level 10

@jcournoyer  Samsies

Level 10

@jcournoyer  - Just tried with Explorer 11 and was successful. Click the drop down at the bottom for PostgreSQL and you will see version 11 used on two services.

Level 9

@joshyaf  thanks for the reply.  I ended up using Firefox and I was able to log onto the demo environment.  I'm not sure why Chrome and Edge would not work.

Man.. I sure don't let the points build up .. because of this mission, I felt compelled to reward myself with the dice!! Thanks for making our days fun filled and definitely rewarding!  I appreciate all your hard work @yumdarling

Level 8

Am I blind? I dont see any of the database names for today's (Monday) question in the application map SQL  options

Level 9

@thornleyp I saw one.  Check again.  After clicking on SQL as instructed, look carefully in the box labeled CRITICAL DATABASES. Some of them were similar to the answers given, one was exact.  I selected that one and got a green check for today. Good luck.

Level 11

@zennifer The dice are definitely cool.  I haven't owned D&D dice since my youth.  I'm driving my kids crazy with them.  When they ask me anything I make them roll a random die to determine their fate.

MVP

@xbod- that is exactly what I am going to do .. but here at work!   Most recently we started flipping a coin in my team, when I saw the dice, I knew exactly what we were going to do here at work.  I was headed this way regardless... BUT TODAY I GOT A PROMOTION!!!   GAME ON!!!

Did you all hear me!!! Thank you Solarwinds for ALWAYS making me look good!!!  I continue to remind myself that the tools are only as good as the effort that I put in to make them great!    This came as a total surprise and has really made my day... almost as much as becoming a MVP!!!  Thanks @KMSigma, I have pushed a little harder because of people like you!

I'm going to write the old adage that "it takes a village" but swap it out for "it takes a community."

I cannot say it enough: this is why I ❤️ THWACK.  @zennifer your promotion is a win for everyone on this community!  Thanks for your contributions and we're here to help as much as you like.  As always, it's a pleasure having you as part of the community.  That goes for everyone! Thanks for being a part of this community.

One thing they don't tell you right away is the "Senior" part is referring to your age!   You're just getting too old...  :😁😝

Congrats!!!

You know @cnorborg, you are right!  But for an old dog .. I am keeping up with the pack!    I have not done this alone.  I use much smarter people than myself to succeed!

MVP

Using smarter people to help yourself succeed is the smartest way to do it. Congrats on your promotion!

Level 7

I found this page to be helpful with today's question.

Level 20

Once again all the questions are missing here as well???

Level 20

I see the instructions and the mission shortcut but all the questions are missing... just not there?

MVP

@zennifer

Congratulations on your promotion!!!!

Level 20

For Monday's question when I click on the SQL there is only one database critical and it's not on the list.  It's WSS_Logging?

Congratulations @zennifer !!

Level 20

Did anyone get the new thwack dice from the store?  I got a set... really pretty neat!  We asked for it and it's there now!

MVP
MVP

I did get some...  Still hunting for my old set from back in high school days.

Level 12

Yea those dice are nice, after the initial grab and go I order another set for a friend.  Wanted to make sure everyone got theirs that wanted one.

Level 8

I think my only critique on the dice is that the solarwinds logo changes value on each dice, i.e its the 4 on the d4 and its 6 on the d6.  I would have liked it better if it was always the 1 but still very happy with the set.

Bad question today ... ugh ... here is a better link to hint though .. and I still got it wrong!

No no.. that would be for Tuesday's question... sorry .. I forgot that I was behind a couple of days.. should have read these comments.. feeling good after the full mission catch up .. got all the answers right ...

Level 10

Same, I did not see the link for the survey today to end the monthly mission.

MVP
MVP

the word "survey" is the link.  Hover your mouse pointer of it to.  It is not a underlined link.

Level 10

Thanks for another successful mini mission. Always good information presented in a fun format, with THWACK points. Can't go wrong there. Please keep them coming. Congratulations to all the winners!
