I am so Glad to see dameware getting love.  I have used this product since before SolarWinds owned it.

And now it's offered as a SaaS help desk tool as well, i.e. Dameware Remote Everywhere.

A tiny typo in the first week's prize's name?

I see this cooker can operate for up to 240 minutes.  At 1,000 Watts.  I suddenly envision leaving a 1,000-Watt hair dryer running for four hours, watching the electric meter spinning.  That better be some awesome food that comes out of it!

Yes, thanks Danielle!  Nothing better on this site than MORE free points for MORE free stuff!!!

But you know, I just couldn't help being taken back to the old school on this mission...ruh roh!  Here comes an

Question 2 seems ambiguous:

If you are trying to connect to a workstation that is unattended, which component would you use?

Admin Area

The Administrative Area allows users with admin level permissions to configure, brand, and customize Dameware Remote Everywhere to meet their business needs. This includes setting up technicians, configuring their associated access permissions, adding devices, starting attended and unattended remote support sessions, and much more.

I would use the admin area to "start" the unattended remote support session, would I not?  (EDIT: This is not correct BTW)

petergwilson
Level 14

But you would need this installed first.

Agent

Similar to the Applet, the Agent enables remote access, but it is installed as a Windows Service or a Mac Daemon. This means the application enables unattended support to the computer on which it is deployed.

asheppard970
Level 13

According to the reference above, kmurphy, and as I read it, what the Admin Area allows one to do is...

configure, brand, and customize Dameware Remote Everywhere to meet their business needs

So it could be interpreted that the "Admin" is "Setting up" their DRE to "Start attended and unattended remote support sessions" when the package is deployed, not that the Admin would, themselves, initiate such sessions.  I see what you're saying by all means...just trying to look for the distinction that DanielleH and the GEEKS are making on this.

kmurphy
Level 9

Yes, but when I am connecting, I am not starting *from* the computer with the agent.  I would connect from the admin portion *to* the agent.

DanielleH Community Manager
Community Manager

Sure, you would use the admin area to connect. However, you would not be able to connect to the unattended machine without having _____ installed first. See petergwilson's comment.

If you are trying to connect to a workstation that is unattended, which component would you use?

And your comment:

Sure, you would use the admin area to connect.

You can see where it can be confusing to some and might need different wording for clarity.  I understand now where you are going with it.  Any chance of a reset please?

Clarification added.

I went through this same dilemma this morning when I was considering my answer.  But I used the above logic, and luckily got the answer correct.

Thats.PNGDoes anyone else see the apostrophe show up like this all the time on this site? It's not a major issue, but it is beginning to annoy me.

I'm not sure how apostrophe translates to a-circumflex, euro, trademark. It is very odd.

janobi
Level 11

Yes I get the same issues as you mention with the ' not showing correctly.

rschroeder
Level 21

I see it, too.  Figured it was my Chrome browser, that maybe Edge or Firefox didn't show it that way, but I wasn't intrigued enough to verify them.

DanielleH Community Manager

It is rendering quite oddly. I went back in and did a quick removal of the apostrophes I could spot.

Maybe there is a way to "escape" the apostrophe's like we do in the unix world.

Generally the best solution there has been clearing cache & cookies & trying again, or using a different browser or a different computer to log back into thwack and retry the option.

Bummer, all of my networks are classified and I can't send you a screen shot. I guess that auto disqualifies me for the prize.

What’s New - Dameware Remote Support v12.1 | Dameware

asheppard970
Level 13

I went through the sign-up process and got logged into the system, but then was logged out and presented with the following screen:

pastedImage_0.png

When I clicked on the [Login] button, nothing happened.  I was using IE11 so figured I would try Chrome and guess what, it worked like a champ.  Not sure if this is a known issue with IE or if SW is doing an AIP with it but it's Chrome FTW!!

asheppard970
Level 13

So I signed up for the 14 day trial and dove into testing it.  I like much of what I see; definitely more functionality than the DWRC.

There is one little buggy thing, though, DanielleH.  When I clicked on the various tabs at the top of the screen (Shell, File Transfer, Remote Registry, etc.) a chat window would open up and I needed to close it or move it to access the tabs again.  Using DRE on Chrome Version 73.0.3683.86 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Also, can the Agent installation be automated (.MSI?) so we could deploy it using SCCM?

asheppard970
Level 13

OK, nevermind...that bug (or should I say "undocumented feature") went away on a new session.

asheppard970
Level 13

Sorry to bombard the thread, here, but I did come across something else, DanielleH.  I ran the DRE Tech Console install and it gives the option to slap it on a USB drive, which I did.  But when I go to run the program, I get:

pastedImage_0.png

Now, full disclosure: this thumb drive is my work tools/utils drive and it did have PortableApps.com on it.  I also noticed that DRE Tech Console gobbled up the autorun.inf file, kicking PortableApps.com to the curb.  So is this a matter of: if we're going to install the console on a thumb drive, use a blank one?  (Yes, that is a semi-rhetorical question there... ;-)

Might be worth posting these issues over in the DWE Forum so that the Product Managers / Dev's notice it. I suspect they don't check here as often. Dameware Remote Everywhere (DRE)

The comment for a correct answer to Question 9 almost reads like an FBI report submitted to Congress Instead of blacked-out redactions, there are characters that don't make words.
