THWACK MONTHLY MISSION - AUGUST 2017

Level 15

1706_thwack_August-mission_THWACK_900x300.png

Helpdesk ticket #8675309

Report date: 8/7/17 8:00 AM

Est Due date: 9/3/17 11:59 PM

Department: Marketing (again)

Status: Open

Request type: Helpdesk request > Hardware

Subject: Sending out an S.O.S. (Save our server)

Request detail: Help!!! We were having our annual Marketing summer bash and things got a little out of hand. The weather wasn’t cooperating so we had to move everything inside—including the dunk tank that we use to dunk the CMO and other heads of marketing. We had a hard time finding a corner big enough to set up the tank until we came across a large corner on the IT floor next to that room where the server thingies live (I’m not sure what y’all do with all of those). Anyway, one thing led to another and I’m afraid that room may have gotten a little wet. I didn’t think it was a big deal until we couldn’t access our emails or any of our files on the shared drive. Please tell me you can fix this?! Maybe try unplugging them and plugging them back in? That’s usually what you tell me when I can’t get anything to work. J Thanks!!

^ Sound familiar? This month’s mission is a Race to Rescue your end-users from downtime, password resets, and most importantly, from PEBCAK errors. If you can relate, feel free to share your help desk horror stories in the comment section.

Good luck!

Good Luck!

I think it just did the same for me. Unless I had a blind moment? Did you choose the top one?

interestingly Landesk Servicedesk can be setup to work pretty much how you'd like (we use the same product)

But now Ivanti own both Landesk and Heat - and it looks like Servicedesk doesn't have much of a future any longer

Level 11

The week 2 winner who will be taking home an R2D2 Mini Fridge is eacooke! Congrats!

Regarding this week's prize... A network device that is always listening for my voice seems really creepy.  I love shopping via Amazon, but I guess that's where I draw the line.  Reminds me of the doll that records kids' voices and uploads.

Ok google!  I have to admin I love android auto... it pretty awesome.

I wish they had mechanical switches with status light. I'd like to know that when I say its off, it is. That said, they work great, and my 3 year old loves his robot DJ. I have bought a few of these:

Level 10

Good to go eacooke! Congrats! Looks like a nice Minifridge to have! 🙂

Thanks lindsey.serrano

I love it that you are giving Dameware some love.   it needs more attention.  Its a fantastic tool.

Level 10

Would someone post the hint link for today. I'm fairly certain that I read the answer I selected on the post... Then was told I selected the wrong answer. Thanks.

Level 12

Three Things Made Easier With Remote Desktop Sharing

I'll say this: The answer is more than just one of the options.

Level 10

There it is. I saw radial buttons, not check boxes. I appreciate your help stevenastem

Level 12

No problem, glad to help.

Level 10

DO what I do everyday, open the question, cut and paste it in a temp word doc. Pull it up on my second monitor and the click on the hint. This way I can see the what the hint has to say while looking at the original question. If I am not in a hurry I can usually get it right. Just sharing

Level 10

You could just right click on the hint and choose 'open in new window'.   No need to cut and paste into a word document.

Level 12

And move the new window to your second monitor!

Level 10

Thank you I will try it tomorrow and see what happens. Make sense to me

That's what I do too smoked_angus!

I have two Dell 24" Ultrasharp flat screen side by side for my unclassified machine.  I leave the question up on the left and right click copy the link for the hint then past it into browser windows on my right hand flat screen.

MVP

I could see how this would help in some situations for sure!  A similar issue comes up with Raspberry Pi power supplies and the Pi... they don't have a power switch at all.

We are Soooo creatures of habit. Over the last several questions we've been rewarded with a "That's correct" or some other verification when we click the submit button. Today, I very carefully read the questions, answers and hint - clicked the necessary box(s) and clicked Submit - NO "That's correct" Really threw me, clicked OK and it was marked correct. Whew thought I'd missed it. Funny how little things will throw a person off. But then again, I haven't had my coffee just yet either . . .

Level 8

Dameware Rocks!  We have used it for years, supporting just over 25k workstations.

Level 8

I completely agree and also had the 5 seconds of panic this morning.   Thwack is keeping it real...

MVP
MVP

bummer...the hint is blocked by McAffee..

blocked.JPG

Really informative questions on Dameware this week.

Jfrazier...we are blocked on the hint as well by websense...but for different category.

MVP
MVP

They don't like dameware that's why it's blocked because it's a remote access tool... bummer.

MVP
MVP

Exactly....

Level 9

For anyone that may have been getting blocked from the hint page...
