THWACK IS BACK!

UPDATE: THWACK Migration Update v1.0

Whew! That was a ride. We had a few hiccups along the way but I have to say... for the shear size of this migration, we done did well.

We're also fully aware that it doesn't look and feel exactly how it did before. Yes, your cheese was moved. Yes, some things are missing. We tried to keep buttons, navigation, veribiage, etc. the same as much as possible. Over the next several weeks, we have a lengthy list of things to fix, implement, and improve upon, but you have our commitment we'll get it done as fast as humanly possible. 

Before I stop making sense nod off, here's what's on the short list for near-term fixes:

  • Password - As mentioned, your passwords didn't migrate for security reasons. The first time you login, choose "forgot password" and an email will be sent for you to reset your password. Your username remains the same as before. 
  • Points - The process is underway. It's running approximately 7k accounts per hour for the first migration. Yes, I said first. We had to increment all the old Jive userIDs so that there was no overlap when your new Khoros (Lithium) userID was generated. We're expecting approximately 36 hours for both scripts to complete. When it's ready, you'll see your points in the top right next to your avatar. 
  • Store - Since points are unavailable, so is the store. The bones are in place but we need to continue tweaking some of the process now that we're working with real data.
  • Missing pages - THWACK Tuesday Tips and SolarWinds Lab are two big ones that come to mind. These are heavily customized pages that take a bit more care. ETA is ASAP. 
  • Page layouts - Remember when we said this platform was mobile-first? We're vigorously working to implement components to every.single.page.one.by.one. You can expect to see improvements almost daily.
  • Following/subscribing/friending - It's not available now but we're working on making those controls available so you can resume the normal notiifcations you would expect from the community.

I'm certain I'm missing things (given the list sitting next to my right) but these are the larger themes. We are working around the clock to fix, implement, and improve. I mean, THWACK is where we work. Not only are we heavily invested in making it better for you, but we need it to work for us as well. 

Which brings me to FEEDBACK - if you see something, say something. I will start a dedicated thread to report problems so we can consolidate and address as efficiently as possible. Stay tuned here for the link.

Thank you for your patience while we work through this. You don't know how much your support is appreciated. And because I envy @yumdarling and her enthusiasm through this entire thing, (y'all, she managed not one, not two, but effectively THREE communities) we are forever "dedicated to your success".

@typhoon87 we fixed a bunch of in product links today (mostly Orion products). I'll add that one to the list, though it should be redirected already. We'll investigate.

@racowi @cnorborg its on the short *ahem* long list. I confirmed threaded comments is in the next version which is being deployed to staging tomorrow and production on March 5th.

I'm a little concerned now. I had around 143,000 or 144,000 points total, 118,000 or 119,000 available, and now it says I have 25 points available. That's a pretty big difference.

@brianj thanks for reporting this. I kicked off an investigation and we think we've found the issue. We took a backup of everyone's old userID and associated gamification activity so everything is still stored - we'll get it corrected.

Before the migration I showed 54, 045 and after the migration I am showing 24, 706.

What am I missing (other than points)??

Hiya, I also have a missing points issue. I have dropped from 50,225 to 13,475. If I'm right, 13,475 is about what I had available in the store. Do we lose spent points now?

I cant copy or paste an image in here using HTML. Is anyone else seeing the LABELS skewed and messing with your OCD? The line " SolarWinds Customer How-To & Best Practices" is not lined up for me in Firefox. Melon

I've accessed the site through both Safari and Firefox, so far successfully.

I was looking for the old Labs so I can review software I've not used directly in anticipation of new employment.  Where did they go?  Did I miss that in the informational missives posted before the migration?

Those pages were completely custom, were working on bringing them back as quickly as possible.

This is probably a stock setting thing, and low on priority of things to do, but bringing it to light so it is recognized. 🙂

@thehalovex correct. Your points no longer determine your level or ranking, they are purely for purchases in the store. Therefore, we migrated everyone's current balances. 

Also for anyone else who is seeing wonkiness with their points display, please email thwackadmin@solarwinds.com so we can troubleshoot 1:1 vs on this thread. A fix was deployed for the previous issue we were seeing so everyone should be accounted for.

I feel like I (and maybe others) would benefit from a new "You Don't Know Thwack" mission based on teaching us the ins and outs of the new Thwack environment.

In the above post, formatting, all, runs, and together, should have displayed as new line. And speaking of typos, where is the edit button for editing my previous post? And where are formatting options? Formatting was available in forum products, oh idk, in the 1990s I believe, but don't seem to be available the me here, at least not by default.

Thinking about efficiently navigating the site, it would be nice to have page navigation at the top of the conversations. As the conversations get longer and span many pages, sometimes I just want to jump to the end, or I remember a certain comment was on page 3 of 7 so I just want to get to page 3 quickly.  To do that I have to scroll to the bottom to get the navigation links.  Not the worst problem, but to quote many of our users "it's extra clicks" or in this case extra scrolling.

@DanielleH I'm not sure exactly which page it points to.  This is a built-in widget.

The 'View All' link points to https://thwack.solarwinds.com/forums/34.aspx which gives a Page Not Found error.

The HELP link points to http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/en/flarehelp/npm/content/core-search-on-thwack.com-resource.... which explains the widgets.

New platform doesn't play well with Chrome browser.... It just loads a blank page. But other than that it looks great!

**Turns out it was residual cookies on my machine!!! Many thanks to Danielle & team for doing a webex and finding the solution quickly!!! Now I don't have to open IE EVER!!**

@muftak Ah, I see. You're looking within VNQM itself. We're working on a number of redirects for in-product links. For now, I would recommend navigating to the product forum here on thwack to view all content. You can get there from the navigation up top: Product Forums > Network Management > VNQM.

I'm not going to sugarcoat and state things like "great job", or "the new site looks awesome".  The new site kind of sucks.  So many things are broken and/or missing.  This upgrade looks like a downgrade.  We'll see what happens in coming weeks.

@hnieman I don't think anyone referred to this as an upgrade, we had to migrate the community. I agree with you, we have plenty of work to do and if there's any more specific feedback you have, please shoot us a message or email thwackadmin@solarwinds.com so we can address it.

I have no idea where to this information.  I am going to assume that The SolarWinds Labs has not been "converted" to this platform.

Just watched a Live Lab and could not get the chat to show.  There used to be a section in the SolarWinds Lab home page that told what was needed to see chat.  But I can not find that information or the Home page.   

I hope this is just me not knowing how to use this new platform.  I am finding this new platform VERY HARD to use and to find information not easy.  Again I hope it is just me!  I maybe the only one but I liked the Old Thwack.  Things were much easier to find.  Again new platform new ways but I have yet to find a "How To" guide for this new platform.
