THWACK IS BACK!

UPDATE: THWACK Migration Update v1.0

Whew! That was a ride. We had a few hiccups along the way but I have to say... for the shear size of this migration, we done did well.

We're also fully aware that it doesn't look and feel exactly how it did before. Yes, your cheese was moved. Yes, some things are missing. We tried to keep buttons, navigation, veribiage, etc. the same as much as possible. Over the next several weeks, we have a lengthy list of things to fix, implement, and improve upon, but you have our commitment we'll get it done as fast as humanly possible.

Before I stop making sense nod off, here's what's on the short list for near-term fixes:

  • Password - As mentioned, your passwords didn't migrate for security reasons. The first time you login, choose "forgot password" and an email will be sent for you to reset your password. Your username remains the same as before.
  • Points - The process is underway. It's running approximately 7k accounts per hour for the first migration. Yes, I said first. We had to increment all the old Jive userIDs so that there was no overlap when your new Khoros (Lithium) userID was generated. We're expecting approximately 36 hours for both scripts to complete. When it's ready, you'll see your points in the top right next to your avatar.
  • Store - Since points are unavailable, so is the store. The bones are in place but we need to continue tweaking some of the process now that we're working with real data.
  • Missing pages - THWACK Tuesday Tips and SolarWinds Lab are two big ones that come to mind. These are heavily customized pages that take a bit more care. ETA is ASAP.
  • Page layouts - Remember when we said this platform was mobile-first? We're vigorously working to implement components to every.single.page.one.by.one. You can expect to see improvements almost daily.
  • Following/subscribing/friending - It's not available now but we're working on making those controls available so you can resume the normal notiifcations you would expect from the community.

I'm certain I'm missing things (given the list sitting next to my right) but these are the larger themes. We are working around the clock to fix, implement, and improve. I mean, THWACK is where we work. Not only are we heavily invested in making it better for you, but we need it to work for us as well.

Which brings me to FEEDBACK - if you see something, say something. I will start a dedicated thread to report problems so we can consolidate and address as efficiently as possible. Stay tuned here for the link.

Thank you for your patience while we work through this. You don't know how much your support is appreciated. And because I envy @yumdarling and her enthusiasm through this entire thing, (y'all, she managed not one, not two, but effectively THREE communities) we are forever "dedicated to your success".

First - WOW Glad to be back! Thanks to Yum who assisted with the password reset!

Hey @RaviK - your Chrome issue -  are you using version 80? As it just dropped and contains wonderful new security updates. (They are a good thing, unless you happen to have naughty cookies.)

Welcome back! Thanks for all of your hard work on this. Looks great so far!

PS - Working great in Edgium (Chromium based Edge) a mobile Edge. It just took 4 tries for a successful password reset.

Great to see things are back!  I was starting to go through some withdrawal! LOL  Great work @DanielleH and the entire crew.

Haha. Me, too, @the_ben_keen !

You and your time have been awesome since the beginning.  Now we get to see how much more awesomer and superstar you folks really are with this migration.

I know it will take some time with some of the bits and pieces.

Keep up the GREAT work.

Eric

Job well done to the Thwack team.  So far it looks and feels great.

Things are looking pretty crisp on the new platform. Now that our standing is based on kudo's, I realize that i haven't received all that many. I had been sitting around 113th place on points on the old system, now I've slipped significantly. Not quite sure how far as the default view wasn't showing my place. Just the top, then you can view 25 at a time.

I look forward to seeing where Thwack will take us in the years to come. Can wait till the Solarwinds dice show up in the store.

Wow, it kinda looks the same but different. At first sight, it all looks very slick. It will take some getting used to but I'm sure it's all for the better.

Congrats on making this happen, it sounds like it was a mammoth task (looks like it too!) Well done to all involved. I'm looking forward to finding my way around the new forum.

not a fan of the new design, just scrolling through this thread there's too much empty space on the right and left... just doesn't flow as well as the previous design. to me it seems like it was made to be mobile friendly, which i understand - but just don't think the desktop site needs to follow the same standard...

Thank you.

Nice job!  Excellent work!

Great work guys, needing to reset our passwords is a small price to pay for progress Robot Happy

Level 12

It took me a while to get my password, Mincast would delay the password reset passowrd longer than 30 minutes. I'm glad I got it worked out and I'm not happily thwacking!

Level 9

My icon is so much bigger and high-def now! Wow that has a really big eye.. maybe I should change that..

Looking good and look forward to surfing the new hotness when time allows

Great job @DanielleH @KMSigma and team 🙂

Liking the new UI! Will custom avatars be bought over as the profile script run? I'm missing my Corgi photo Robot Very Happy

The one thing I noticed... which isn't bad or good per se... thwack seems longer ie. taller vertically now.  Things are spaced out more between lines and content ie. maybe more white space???  IDK does anyone else notice something like this???  It could be just me?

Some things have a little more delay maybe but it's minor... I think overall @DanielleH you really couldn't have asked for the switch over to go better than this!  Now that the dust is settlling, from a big undertaking, it looks like the year of work leading up to this or more is paying off!

Now you need a vacation!

Bill

Yeah, there have been a few comments about the increased amount of whitespace...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯

Call me dumb, but I cannot get an image to insert in my disccussion post. How do I do this? Can I not upload from my local computer?

Enjoying it so far!

I was however expecting a music video done to the music of AC/DC's "Back in Black" that was instead "Thwack is Back".

The only question would be who would be wearing the school uniform and hat jumping around stage with a guitar?

@cnorborg that would be our mascot @KMSigma

So I read this and pick up my Gibson SG and play along!  Thwack is Back!

Please be aware that the new email being used for re-registering, mailer@lithium.com, might be blocked by some spam filters.

Hello. Any idea when the shared policy reports on thwack for compliance will work again? Is this still being migrated? Link for "content exchange area on thwack" is broken and no policies are shown in the window. I just see the message, "Unable to reach thwack.com".
Level 12

Somehow I lost nearly 40,000 points?! What happened?

Level 14

For the WebHelpdesk (WHD) product the Prodcut Roadmap/What Were Working on post appears to be missing?

Level 12

Pretty much every other page I go to I get this...

Request Entity Too Large

The requested resource

blah, blah, blah...

does not allow request data with GET requests, or the amount of data provided in the request exceeds the capacity limit.

And it wouldn't let me post the screenshot I had of this either.

Interesting, you can't reply to a specific comment, only to the message I think.

@bmallon    Four hundred thousand points?!   That's a lot!!  🙂

I think what went on is the points shown are for the Thwack store, not total points for all time.   ie:   You're probably 40,000 points short because you spent them in the past.     ie:   I had close to 300,000 points before the change over, but now I have somewhat over 200,000 points, because I spent the difference in the past...

Level 8

@bmallon

I was getting the same issue you described, over and over.

All I did to fix it was to clear the cookies for everything on *.solarwinds.com

After that, so far so good.

Level 10

@cnorborg Yeah, I think you are exactly right; before there were two totals for points. One was lifetime earnings (to keep track of what level you are at) and the other was a balance available for using in the store. It looks like only the store balance has transferred, not the lifetime earnings number. @CourtesyIT is only level 15 now? I know he was higher than that, so something didn't get transferred right. For my part, I was higher than level 10; pretty sure I was just about to hit 200,000 lifetime points, but currently showing only 110K.

@meyer837 if you saw my previous posts, your level is no longer determined by your points but rather your activity in the boards. For this same reason, everyone's current point balance was migrated, not your lifetime balance. Make sense?

We still have the legacy site and confirmed the point migration was successfully accurate.

Level 10

Thanks @DanielleH I've been trying to read through all the changes, but that specific point missed my attention. I appreciate the clarification!

@bmallon apologies for that annoying error. We are tracking it. It's cookie bloat from your license ownership in the customer portal. Those of you with a lot of licenses will encounter this error and the workaround is just as you said - clear cookies and/or sign out of the customer portal.

I will be posting weekly blogs with status on bugs, fixes, improvements, etc. This one in particular has been escalated and we hope to have a resolution soon.

Is the THWACK integration with SAM broken for anyone else? I'm wanting to browse for some application templates.

@yerffej07 latest status shows it was fixed over this past weekend. Both download and upload were verified.

Tried uploading a screenshot of the SAM content exchange here after tweaking some settings... looks like this goes back on the list. 😑

THANK YOU

You do not realise how much you rely on something until is it gone!

I now have my primary account back.

Thank you for the fast reply and resolution!

Level 14

@DanielleHThanks for finding it but I its no longer linked to the "Product Roadmap" button on the WHD main page is greyed out and does not link to that thread.

Level 9

is it me.  Or is googling thwack and then finding links all broken..

@rockgeek examples?

Level 8

@cnorborg  I saw some reply buttons on other threads except on this particular thread. Maybe a admin limitation?

I had to create a new user ID.  I am not getting any email response to send a reset link to my old account.  Please let me know who I need to conact.  I'm not getting any response from thwackadmin@solarwinds.com.

Level 10

Ok, thank you Thwack admin for correcting my issue.  Good day.

Level 14

Found another one when in the WHD product's admin console then clicking the Thwack button the address it takes you to (https://thwack.solarwinds.com/community/tools_tht/web-help-desk) is now a dead link.

Level 9

Yeah, seems to be here and working again.  Now if only I had better Avatars to pick from.  Smiley Happy
