THWACK IS BACK!

UPDATE: THWACK Migration Update v1.0

Whew! That was a ride. We had a few hiccups along the way but I have to say... for the shear size of this migration, we done did well.

We're also fully aware that it doesn't look and feel exactly how it did before. Yes, your cheese was moved. Yes, some things are missing. We tried to keep buttons, navigation, veribiage, etc. the same as much as possible. Over the next several weeks, we have a lengthy list of things to fix, implement, and improve upon, but you have our commitment we'll get it done as fast as humanly possible.

Before I stop making sense nod off, here's what's on the short list for near-term fixes:

  • Password - As mentioned, your passwords didn't migrate for security reasons. The first time you login, choose "forgot password" and an email will be sent for you to reset your password. Your username remains the same as before.
  • Points - The process is underway. It's running approximately 7k accounts per hour for the first migration. Yes, I said first. We had to increment all the old Jive userIDs so that there was no overlap when your new Khoros (Lithium) userID was generated. We're expecting approximately 36 hours for both scripts to complete. When it's ready, you'll see your points in the top right next to your avatar.
  • Store - Since points are unavailable, so is the store. The bones are in place but we need to continue tweaking some of the process now that we're working with real data.
  • Missing pages - THWACK Tuesday Tips and SolarWinds Lab are two big ones that come to mind. These are heavily customized pages that take a bit more care. ETA is ASAP.
  • Page layouts - Remember when we said this platform was mobile-first? We're vigorously working to implement components to every.single.page.one.by.one. You can expect to see improvements almost daily.
  • Following/subscribing/friending - It's not available now but we're working on making those controls available so you can resume the normal notiifcations you would expect from the community.

I'm certain I'm missing things (given the list sitting next to my right) but these are the larger themes. We are working around the clock to fix, implement, and improve. I mean, THWACK is where we work. Not only are we heavily invested in making it better for you, but we need it to work for us as well.

Which brings me to FEEDBACK - if you see something, say something. I will start a dedicated thread to report problems so we can consolidate and address as efficiently as possible. Stay tuned here for the link.

Thank you for your patience while we work through this. You don't know how much your support is appreciated. And because I envy @yumdarling and her enthusiasm through this entire thing, (y'all, she managed not one, not two, but effectively THREE communities) we are forever "dedicated to your success".

Here's to the rejuvination of Thwack!

This is AWESOME!!!  So excited about the new system.  I look forward to THWACK 2.0 (or whatever revision you're on right now ;-)!

Congrats to everyone on the team.  Having done a rather involved Oracle migration many years ago, I can certainly empathize with what you all have gone through these past weeks, months and probably years.

KUTGW!!

These new SWUG pages are fantastic! Congrats on the success!

@DanielleH I had a heck of a time logging in.  After resetting passwords and trying to recover my user name, I found the reason was that my username changed.  For some reason there was a 1 added to the end of my username during the maintenance.  Any idea why this happened?  I went back to look at some old threads and where people @ 'ed me it still shows my username without the number.

A change is as good as a rest, as they say! (sorry Thwack team, that is probably the wrong thing to say after all your hard work!, for which we are all thankful!)

For anyone having issues with "Request Entity Too Large" errors, clear your Thwack cookies and the site should work for you again (thanks @jm_sysadmin )

Now to get used to the new platform, let the fun begin!

Level 7

Very clean and nice - and a quick, hopefully smooth, update!

I've pingend @KMSigma regarding an authentication bug that i ran into.

I was logged in to another members profile after resetting my pwd and logging in... Smiley Surprised

It's go time.

I let @KMSigma  know about an issue I had this AM as well, it looks like some growing pains. I also have to poke at @DanielleH about the need for a dark theme by default 😛

Level 11

Looks good and pages load quickly while jumping around the site.

I had the same auth buglett, as you've already reported I shan’t fill the mailbox unnecessarily

Thank you @DanielleH and @KMSigma for getting this incredible migration past the post. Our new world looks great

Good Job to everyone involved. I do have one complaint 😛 There wasnt a frogger game when the site was down. 😛 In all seriousness the site looks clean and fresh and ready for action. Have fun and enjoy your weekend.
Level 11

The old url to browse SAM templates catalogue was http://thwackfeeds.solarwinds.com, what is the new one ? (i need to unblock it in zscaler)

Thanks

Level 11
Hi @jm_sysadmin, I'm talking about "Shared Application Monitor Templates on Thwack" in SAM settings I'm no longer able to list templates made from community users The old url used to list the templates was http://thwackfeeds.solarwinds.com

@Vinx I see what you mean, and I an not sure where to find it. I suspect that powered the links in Orion to get templates from Thwack, I bet it will be replaced. If I track it down I will let you know.

Level 9

Welcome back! It looks great.

Level 20

Wow gotta scroll down a little more but it's all working!  Welcome to thwack 3.0!!!  I'm glad you got it all worked out Danielle!

Level 9

I can't imagine all the work that is happening behind the scenes. Thank you all for making this such a great community.

Level 8

@DanielleH, I think there is a problem with my account. Whe I go to my profile, it says I am Eric Bell, from GA. I'm actually not that person. Can I have my old profile back please?

I am ebradford

Level 8

@DanielleHDo you have an e-mail address I can send the details to, regarding how I got logged into the wrong account. I tried to send the infor to Serena since I have her e-mail address, but she is out today, so she can't forward the info to you.

@DanielleH  I know how hard a cut over can be on that scale.   I am neck deep in many different projects with similar activities.   Great job.   I got logged in, am able to reply to you, and the site looks great.   All things in wisdom and in order....

Level 11

I dunno,  I had kind of grown fond of the crowded, not sure what to click on, everything is flashing, and in your face old version of Thwack.  I'm not sure I even had a chance to click on everything there was to click on from the old environment and Heart But yes it does look clean and crisp, more like the Success Center now.  Nice work guys I bet this had to be a huge task.

Level 9

Despite a slight struggle with getting logged back in (shout out to @yumdarling for taking care of that for me), I'm in and everything looks awesome! Thanks for all y'all do, @DanielleH and team!

Level 9

without reading every thing and every comment....  I found out the migration was occuring while looking for a "Thwack Community Poiller" .      which is now empty.

@DanielleH , @yumdarling et al

Level 8

Awesome New Loooks.

But where to see my thwack points?

@solar_vijay

Danielle addressed this in her post 🙂

Level 12
Welcome back!
Level 11

It does look good so far.

Level 10

Hah!

Had a little bit of fun there. My old password was 21 characters long, so when I tried to enter it it yelled at me. Then when I tried to put it back it errored a little bit. I think I've edited it and gotten in safely and updated my password manager to support 20 characters, but I found the whole process interesting.

Level 13

@DanielleH It looks like once I changed my password on my account, I can no longer get into @ebell123's account. Regards, ebradford

@rockgeek - Depending on what you are looking for it's all in the NPM Content Exchange area.

Here are Universal Device Pollers: https://thwack.solarwinds.com/t5/NPM-Documents/tkb-p/npm-documents/label-name/universal%20device%20p...

Just navigate to the forum in question.  Click on the "Content Exchange" button.  Then you can filter for type on the right side.

Level 9

I think something is wrong with the new platform. Somehow I was automatically signed into another person's account.

UPDATE: I was able to logout and login back into my account. Just a little concerned about logging in as another user. Looks like the problem is not unique to me based on the messages in this thread.
