Shopping Season Has Arrived: A Cyber Monday Wishlist

It’s time to say goodbye to spooky season and welcome the season of shopping deals. Forget haunted houses and scary movies—you won’t be running anywhere but towards the checkout button!

We've all had a wishlist just waiting for the sales, and what better way to make those wishes a reality than from the comfort of your home this Cyber Monday (Dec. 2)? In the spirit of shopping season we want to know what you have your eye on this year. Maybe you’re looking for a new video doorbell, router, or feature/functionality for a product? Whatever it is, we want to know!

Tell us what new technology, products, updates, and functionalities you’re most excited for by November 12 and we’ll give you 250 THWACK points in exchange.

  • no... but not an issue for me... no pets!

(I might suggest one for my son and his dog..... hmmmm...)

  • You did a good job putting 2 and 2 together, ebradford.  I have that spotlight on my wish list because I'm not comfortable going out after dark without one--so I don't go out after dark.  I've been out three times in the deep dark of night--always on 4th of July, always in the Duluth, MN harbor to enjoy the fireworks show.  There are sometimes 250+ boats of any size anchored in the harbor to see the pyrotechnics, and they're all trying to get back to their marinas or the public boat launches simultaneously.

That happening in the dark, potentially with some drivers consuming alcohol or other drugs during the show, combined with the occasionally chunks of floating debris (sometimes tiny items, sometimes 40' long 3'x3' wooden pier components or ancient logs that have broken loose from the river bed and that are floating just below the surface . . . it makes a spotlight desirable.

There are too many instances of inexperienced and/or impaired recreational boaters being involved in nighttime accidents that result in damage, injury, or worse.  A great set of lights, staying sober/clean, excellent boating training (I highly recommend the Coast Guard or Power Squadron Safe Boating classes!), and knowledge of one's area and the boats around you--these can be the tools to a safe trip back to shore.

  • I don't have mine yet... The next Triple Points Day at West Marine, I will be ordering mine. I intend to use it to help navigate in the dark or fog. It could also help with locating floating objects lost overboard.

LOL rschroeder… "I don't boat after dark" seems a strange comment to say after you posted, "Jabsco 60020-0000 Marine 135SL Remote Control Marine Halogen Searchlight with joy stick (for my boat, when I'm out at night)"

By the way -- I think the Jabsco 60020-0000 is a great call. I think I will get one too... Let me know if one shows up under your tree this Christmas.

  • ebradford , I'm not sure what I'd do with a camera like that one in my boat.  I don't boat after dark, so any IR / night vision capabilities would be lost.  At $2600.00 it's a spendy accessory for my life style.  Tell me how you use it?

  • rschroeder, I have a Garmin 1042xsv -- I really like this line of chartplotter. This summer I installed forward looking sonar. unfortunately, I haven't had need to use it yet. Don't forget to add FLIR M232 to your list. It would be great for your boat when you are out at night.

The gift I just gave myself is a Garmin Quatix watch (on sale right now at West Marine). In addition to smart watch features (control phone music, e-mails, heartrate, GPS), it also can connect you your Garmin 1242xsv chartplotter. You can see heading and speed, etc. on the watch. You can even change auto-pilot direction or waypoints from the watch. Unlike Apple watch this one is push button controlled, not touch screen.
