POST THWACK UPGRADE 2016 - WHERE'D YOUR STUFF GO?

We don't always do upgrades, but when we do, it takes a lot of sleepless hours and error messages. But in the end, it's worth it, because, lets face it, who doesn't like a not-so-new, but improved and better looking thwack? So, to cut the long story short, here are a few of the changes and improvements you can now enjoy. And, as usual, feel free to share your feedback, questions, and concerns in the comments section.

New Community Capabilities

  • Helpful answers: helpful answers are now cumulative. Once a comment receives a configurable number of helpful votes, it will automatically become the correct answer.
  • Same question: if you come across an open question you too struggle with, you can now mark 'I have the same question' and be notified once an answer has been found.

  • Targeted news streams:
  • News stream view: you'll get a prioritized and tailored summary view of relevant news, along with the streams you choose to follow.

New Collaboration Features

  • Your view: personalize your view however you like. Group and categorize information the way it makes sense to you by using new tiles, like Expanding Sections, or use auto-populating tiles such as Frequently Viewed, Recently Viewed, and more.
  • Your stuff, consolidated: your Inbox, Actions, and the new Your View are now accessible from everywhere in the community via a drop-down menu in the main menu bar, just to the left of your avatar.

New and Enhanced Community Capabilities

  • Search content: search more effectively with top recommended results. We ensure specific content items appear at the top of search results when you search using specific keywords or phrases. No more sifting through results to find what you are looking for!
  • Skills and endorsements: profiles have been extended to include user configurable skills. You can endorse your peers for their specific qualities. Skills are searchable with those users with higher endorsements ranking higher in the result relevance.

Where did my stuff go?

  • Content Creation: the content creation bar under Activity was removed, but you can easily create any type of content from the menu under Create.

  • People: if you want to invite friends or co-workers to thwack, you can still do that by going to Browse -> People. You’ll find the Send Invites button the left side of the screen.

  • Email preferences: with the new profile changes, the email preferences were set to default, so you might need to go and change them according to your needs. To do that, you just need to go to your Profile -> Preferences -> General Preferences.

I'm digging the new features.  Great job SW/Thwack team.

One thing though (there's always something, right?) the "Points Activity" section isn't working under my profile.  It just comes back to a blank page with the Jive logo on the tab.

Also, the feature requests section isn't working - which there's a prominent link posted at the top of the page in the "Upgrade Announcement" section, so that one has a lot of visibility.

Feature Request Page - Rather blank

It's hard for me to believe that there's only 3 active feature requests and they all belong to SCOM Manager...

Understandably the screenshot just fades into the ether, but I think you get the gist of the blankness of the Points Detail page.

Hi brandon.blaze​ - I noticed the thwack feature request issue too when I was trying to find the features I have implemented. I'm looking into what is going on with it, but please don't stop identifying bugs! I need all the help I can get!!!  :-)

It also seems that the e-mail preferences got blown out with the site upgrade.  I can tell because I was set to get no e-mails from the Thwack site (It's nothing personal, but since I'm on the site all day - literally - it becomes redundant to get an e-mail too), yet I got an e-mail when you mentioned me in your post.

More of an annoyance than a bug, but since you asked for more, prepare for me to get granular (just remember, you asked for it )!

Oh yes...that is probably something I should have mentioned is that with the new profile changes, it set some preferences back to default. I fought with our vendor on that one for quite some time but as you can see, I lost...that doesn't happen often. maria.bungau​, it might be worth mentioning this up in the original post. I can't believe I forgot to tell you guys that one because it really irritated the crap out of me!

Bug #3: Forgot Password e-mails are not going out.  As it happens, I can't remember my Thwack password since I'm set to auto-login and never need it.  Did the "Forgot Password" from another browser and the e-mail is not sending out (this was about 15-20 minutes ago).

Check your trash or junk those reset password emails always get flagged as junk by our email system

I tried there first . Gmail is usually pretty good about not flagging my solarwinds mail as junk, but thank you for the suggestion.

brandon.blaze​ - think i fixed the feature request issue under thwack community. Also, as for the gamification "activity", I think you hit one of our nodes that went down. Can you use this URL and see if it works.

QQ...did you turn off your email preferences already? If you set it to not receive emails already then you won't get the email for the password. :-/

I reset my preferences back to Allow e-mails, but I'll check once more.  That seems like something that may want to be fixed or revisited.  I may not want Thwack community e-mails, but I would certainly want a password reset e-mail.

Almost there...

I can get to the points activity page now, and while I'm sure the only thread that shows up repeatedly is a good one, it's one I was never a part of.  Screenshot below:

Every thread title shows up as "Re: cannot monitor mysql application, got error "Data source name not found and no default driver specified" but I never replied to that thread - though I do hope that gent found a solution to his problem.

I've now changed my e-mail preferences to allow every e-mail that Thwack offers.  Before it was just set to "Send Emails? - Yes" and the rest of the options were set to No.

Still no reset e-mail - even after another (sixth one) request.

Can you try it from this URL? We're having an issue with one of our nodes, and I wonder if you're being directed to that particular node, so if I can redirect you to a different node it might provide more "proof" that it's a node issue.

Still working through this one and trying to figure out why it's giving people a list of activities and points that don't belong to them. I'll post back just as soon as I have an idea of what is going on and let you guys know the resolution. Thanks for the heads up everyone! It's incredibly helpful to have multiple eyes looking with me at these things.

Hi brandon.blaze​ - I wanted to briefly follow up and let you know we have fixed the issue with our gamification. If you wouldn't mind checking your points details page and letting me know if you are still seeing inaccuracies, I would really appreciate it! I can attest that all of my points are now associated with the correct content, so I'm hoping your points and content have been updated accurately also! Thanks in advance!!

mrs.alterego​  I have noticed a disparity in how points are displayed in various locations since the latest update.

That is after refreshing all source pages....  Normally they are relatively in sync but I have seen this much of a difference in which all three are different values.

I second that observation; I've seen it myself.  But I'm less worried about points these days, so I didn't mention it.  Good catch, Jfrazier.

Jfrazier​ - thanks for catching this for us. Seems this happens periodically whenever I have to do updates. I'll have our vendor take a look at the logs to see if we can identify what keeps bringing this issue back to light. Every time we fix it, it doesn't appear to stay fixed so there is obviously something else that is going on that might be a little harder to reproduce due to its inconsistencies. (sigh) I hate those types of bugs!
