[Need Feedback] thwack Organizational Changes Are Coming!

The thwack team is continuing our efforts into 2015 to improve the overall thwack experience.  As we head into the New Year, we will be making changes to the homepage, global navigation, and even rethinking how we organize the hundreds of thousands of resources available on thwack today.  We kicked off this project last month and many of you took our survey and participated in feedback sessions with myself, mrs.alterego, maria.bungau , and katieb from our User Experience team (thank you!).  We have compiled and analyzed all of the results in this initial phase and, with your feedback in mind, have built out the second part of our testing.  This is where we need your help again.

We have built what is formally called a "treejack" to help us better understand how you find things on thwack.  Note: This is not a test, there are no right or wrong answers.  The results from this will directly shape the direction we go with page layout and global navigation.  This should only take 5-10 minutes of your time and for those of you who submit your feedback before January 2nd will receive 500 thwack points for your participation.

For those of you wondering when are these points going to be added to your profiles, I just did that.

And if you know some fellow thwacksters who did not take this test and might be in need of 500 points, show this to them: [Part 2] thwack Organizational Changes Are Coming Soon! Feedback Needed

  • I am by no means technical (anymore), I am now a “Vision Guy.” Is there any way to insert some intelligence into the “Tags” functionality so that variations of “Tags” can be collated into a grouping? And I am imagining for more than just SolarWinds products, I am thinking of Cisco, Juniper, Microsoft, Aerohive (Please!), Windows, SQL, etc.

    Thanks,

    Peter Monaghan

  • Agreed Peter Monaghanmrs.alterego and I have had several discussions around how we can break up the content so that search results are more tailored to what you're looking for.  Question, do you use the content exchange? Take NPM for example.  Notice the categories on the left?  What if while you were creating a post, whether it be a discussion thread or document in the content exchange, you could check which version of NPM your question applies to?  This would essentially categorize your post and make it searchable for those looking in the NPM v11 category.  Historically, people tend to tag things in different ways (npm11 vs npm11.0 vs npm_11 and so on) so having a static list of check boxes might be more efficient for search.  These are just some options we've discussed in addition to tags.  Thoughts?

  • That's actually NOT a silly one Peter Monaghan. I think this is a great suggestion, and I love the feedback. :-) So, if I am understanding your suggestion, we would have tags be an actual search result, similar to how we have people, content, etc. and by selecting a particular tag, content with that only tag would show in the results. Is that kind of what you're thinking? Obviously that would only work if members are adding tags, but am I getting the idea of where you envision this going?

  • Okay this is a silly one...

I love, love, love, the "Tag" option on Facebook. What do you guys think about a "Tag" option in posts for technologies, model #'s, OS'es, Solarwinds products, etc? And then be able to run multiple-layered queries against those tags?

The problem that I envision this resolving is when I try to access the humongous resource, known as Thwack, and I am looking for specific information on a certain product, OS, etc. I can get lost in the volumes that return from my search queries.
