May the Fourth be with you!

Level 15

May-the-Fourth_v1.gif

It has been proven that the force is strong in the THWACK community. Every day you guys take on the performance slowing empire and restore order to your IT galaxies. Your end-users owe you a great deal of gratitude for rescuing them from the clutches of server outages, sluggish network performance and elusive hackers. We solute you. May the Fourth be with you!

How are you going to celebrate today? Is anyone wearing their shirts from our 2015 contest (IT Is Your Destiny)?

We want to hear how you're celebrating! Leave a comment or share your May the Fourth pictures below!

Well i started off the day answering wrong for the first time in months to the question of the day, and then i realized i will be working late.  Also my WSUS server that hosts my Patch manager is dead again, so i am in a troubleshooting mode trying to get past that.  That is how i will be spending the day, and no i will wear one of my 4 shirts when i go to the Gym later tonight.

May the Fourth be with you.  Greetings all around.

I am a casual Star Wars fan... so I dread days like this. ugh!

But speaking of shirts... I pulled this off last year!

If we had any shirts left I would! Those were by far the most popular SolarWinds shirts ever.

you need a 5.25" single sided single density floppy in there...not a 3.5".

That is where I started too, well kind of.  My grandfather had that and I learned basic over one summer back before they 16k upgrades were available.  4k was all you would ever need and even 4k was not cheap in those days..  But I had actually mounted tapes and entered commands on an IBM 360 several years earlier at the ripe age of 10.

Thanks a lot, I REALLY appreciate the grandfather comment.

Oh, I'm ok with it now - neither of my kids have kids yet, but I'd be ok with it. I was just commenting about your grandfather having the machine I started with when I was an adult already. (Guess it just hit a bit to close to home)

well it was the 70's....

Sorry I missed the conversation yesterday but boy do I remember that computer tallyrich.

I started programming on one of these in High School. You haven't lived until you played Star Trek or Football on one of these units:

Then of course I went away to college and had to program Fortran 77 on these lovely things [even if it was only my freshman year]:

Then folks wonder why Star Wars seemed so fantastic when it premiered, this was the technology even in the early 80's still in use.

HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!

Congrats!!!! Got four of my own....

Besides being on the mainframe at the local university, and MAC and IBM PC at high school, and TRS-80 at friends, this what my fist home computer:

I completely missed Star Wars day, as I was out of the office

I remember the days of loading games to my Tandy 64 via cassette tape.  Kids today and their load times have got nothing on us.

Scary enough, I see all three of those levels! I think my geek meter just pegged. O_o

Level 7

The Vic-20 was my first PC as well.  With the cassette tape drive for storage.  "Good ole days" my butt!  As far as technology goes I'll take the current stuff over the older stuff in most if not all cases!  Of course, there is a bit of nostalgia when thinking back on those times but who would really want to go back to them?!?

"June the First be with you" just doesn't have that ring . . .

Unless we all really celebrated the beginning of summer.  We have no monopoly on beautiful weather, but summer is particularly nice here in Duluth, MN.

Of course not; today is the Glorious First of June.

Yes, this is a genuine commemorative event, amongst we naval historians.
