Calling All IT Heroes!

Community Manager

We need photos of IT Pros like you for our website - solarwinds.com. We're looking to feature our thwack community members in their real-life work setting—working in the server room, fixing a problem, helping a co-worker, or whatever you do to keep your shop up and running.

Guidelines

  • Ideally, the photos should show your face, be high resolution quality, and include several poses, if possible. We want to show the world what your world looks like and how you save the day.
  • The picture should be a wide horizontal shot with preferably a 16:9 aspect ratio and at least 1200px wide.
  • If you’d like, please include a short comment about yourself, what you were doing while the photo was taken, or how SolarWinds’ products help make your job better.

So, what’s in it for you?

Everyone who submits a photo in the comments below will receive:

  • the "SolarWinds.com Hero" badge for your profile.

If your photo is chosen to be used on SolarWinds.com, you will receive:

  • Your choice of a $75 ThinkGeek or Amazon gift card.
  • Oh - and you'll be front and center on the solarwinds.com homepage!

We’ll contact you by email to let you know if you were chosen and get the info on where to send your gift card.

Our Legal team wants us to remind you to make sure you have permission from your employer to take photos in your office and you’ll need to sign a photo release (we’ll send it to you) if we use your image.  Your company name won’t be used.

Here is are a few examples.  The first two feature some of our MVPs - Kevin Small and Scott Sadlocha.  Please know that we will handle any retouching, effects, etc. Any changes made will be passed by you for your sign off before we add it to our website.

World of machines...

Level 15

Now you need 16 eyes!

Level 12

Hi bronx, he really needs 16 eyes. they'd go from 4 in fron, 4 at the back, and 4 on each side of the head.

Well, don't know how much people know that we use solarwinds as our monitoring tool of choice. but i have managed this platform in two locations now. Personally driving solarwinds innovation controlling over $50 mil in assets and serving +30k users. Remotely managed assets in the continental US and Europe.  Help keeping our armed forces 100% up anytime, anyplace.
*if chosen, i can take another pic showing my face that is approved from our PA Office.

Hopefully people don't forget our men and women serving our country and the awesome things we do on a daily basis.

Level 12

is your face covered with a map?

MVP

You Freaking Rock!!! This is absolutely great and creative shot and I admire your skills to manage that many components. Are you looking for anyone to help?

Unfortunately covered face brings some negative feelings and associations (maybe just me only). Try to stand facing back instead so that you are looking at the map, not in the camera...

Alex Slv that's since it's not been approved by PA(Public Affairs) yet. After taking some with his face and running them by PA, it could be shown.

Also ryan.padilla maybe try taking multiple shots and compositing them. IE. Shot of the background without you, shot of you in the view with just bright white projection. and compositing them. If you don't have photoshop or the like and would be willing to provide those, I could do it for you.

Level 13

So, what is up on each of those machines? lol are they all yours?

Level 9

no, just censored for now until I can get approval from our Public Affairs office if it is ok to brand solarwinds with the USAF.

Level 13

Especially an unpaid endorsement like that

Level 12

its fine. Great job are you doing there !!!!! ryan.padilla

Glad you like the shot. I just thought of it when I saw this announcement. I just wanted to share with everybody that we do prefer solarwinds for our monitoring and remote bulk mangement. I am coming up on my 3yrs experience mark and have become a lead tech/SME and trainer for our team of network administrators.  I have heard more and more bases dropping ciscoworks to turn to solarwinds.

Apologize for the negative feelings but until I can get approval to brand solarwinds with USAF, I have to keep somethings censored. that is alsw why my top coat is off too.  i just wana play it safe and not get in trouble. Yes, I do have other shots showing my face with full unirform so if DanielleH would like to feature our armed forces sometime. I would be more than happy to send her the complete official ones to use i guess.

But until then, this will do for now as a fun thing.

I see your ITIL chart hung up and yet 7 monitors -  I don't remember the ITIL stance on multi-tasking but I would bet you do more change then management 😉

I hope you can get it approved it will make a great picture.  I have tried a few times to get photos and other Solarwinds things approved for the public but I keep getting denied.

Take care and keep up the good work.

I feel so inadequate. I only have 2 x 19" monitors. I do however have a Beatles calendar and some smurfs.

Level 13

Picsoritdidnthappen and I’m still on one 19” monitor. The financial people say “one is plenty and we won’t let you spend your budget on second monitors.”

This is my home away from home.

Level 15

A psychologist would have a field day with this picture! Nascar, Smurf, Buzz Lightyear, Beatles calendar, and random toys all housed in a greenhouse.

If I was a normal person I would make normal salary.

Level 13

Love it

Level 17

Visibility needs a few extra screens, just another day.

Level 15

Yes, I'm throwing myself under the bus.

Level 13

Whenever I set up my home office, I'll make sure to show you guys. One of the things I'm going to do is more than one tower with Synergy. Have any of you guys out there played with Synergy? Synergy - Mouse and keyboard sharing software I HIGHLY recommend them! and they support tons of platforms. Plus it's open source..blah..blah..blah.. great software.

EDIT: If I have the logo from my solarwinds installation can it count as an entry ? *pout face*

Level 13

We should start a thread with pictures of your home setup/ office desks

Level 15

Feel free, and my home rig is more complex. Two, 23" monitors and a DIFFERENT laptop below it.

Level 13
Level 12

exactly Kevin Crouch

Level 17

Our room gets all the old stuff that no one wants anymore... I know those monitors on the wall look cool, but don't be fooled.... 720p is the extent of their resolution.

And that Fax is actually plugged in..... we like the nostalgic modem sound it makes

Level 17

Thanks!  I am surprised no one commented on my dual phones... one being the "White Phone"... I am not important enough to get a Red Phone.

Level 15

We call that the good boy phone and the naughty boy phone. (Earworm alert.)

Level 13

I’m….not sure how I feel about that song….

Level 15

Just a fun little ditty!

MVP
MVP

That's not quite right...but funny !!

Level 13

It’s stuck in my head though!! I’m going to have to wash it out with dubstep. That’s all there is to it.

Level 17

That's got a nice Island feel to it Mon!  Nice Jam!

Level 13

I always like to listen to this one as I drift off to sleep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ILsdcs__ME&feature=kp

Haha, it should be alright, I'm pretty normal!

But that's not a Nascar, it's called a V8 Supercar. The main diff with them and Nascar is that the V8 Supercar looks like the road going version it is based on. They do run a control chassis though. They were in Texas late last year.

Oh and did you notice the beer drinking smurf? I bet you couldn't buy one of those these days any more! He's joined by a beer drinking Kiwi. And next to Buzz is Slash from Guns n Roses but he's a bit hidden.

I only have 1 machine at home, but my wife uses it. I rarely use it unless it's to update the songs on my ipod.

Clean desk dude! A few more pictures would liven up the place

I guess if I had friends or family I would have more pix. 😞

Stick up some photos of your favourite band, that's what I do. Unless of course your favourite band is One Direction. In that case, leave your desk the way it is

Level 10

I have been using Synergy with my desktop and laptop (both Windows 7) for several months, but it has been quite buggy. 😞 I haven't given up on them yet.
