Black Friday Blowout: Hot Tech Picks for 2019

‘Tis the season… for the best shopping deals! From managing more distributed environments, working with more software-defined and automated solutions, to perhaps even experimenting with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics, technology needs are constantly changing. We know most enterprise IT hardware and software don’t get the Black Friday treatment (2-for-1 routers, anyone?) but as we approach two of the biggest shopping days of the year, and in the spirit of great holiday deals, we want to know: what’s on your must-have technology list?

We want to know the hottest tech picks of 2019. What do you have your eye on for the year ahead? Maybe you’re exploring API proxy services, cloud-hosted databases, or a 400GbE network. Alternatively, if you’re not in the market for anything new, what technology is getting the upgrade treatment or being retired altogether (on-prem file server—gone but never forgotten)?

Tell us your Top Tech Picks by November 16, 2018, and we’ll give you 250 THWACK® points in exchange.

My gaming PC desperately needs a new GPU, so that's my priority item.

I'm also looking for a decent router to replace my *&^£ BT provided one.

And yeah BOGOF SAN's wouldn't go a miss!!

Level 9

For me, it's the ring 2 doorbell

Level 10

All the Ryzens. Lovely lovely Ryzens.

Level 10

Looking to grab a new GPU for my Retro-Gaming rig.

Need to spruce up my home network with Ubiquiti Edge Router

I am also in the market for new security cameras. I am using Y-Cam right now but I am looking for something with some cloud storage on the cheap.

Ring Doorbell would also be great for my home.

There are many more items, which is why they make it a wish list.

Level 13

New rig.  I had a drive that caused my PC to crash at least two or three times a day.  I never even knew a drive would do that to a pc.

After a drunken anger of 'canning it' basically bashing the drive with a can, it killed the drive.

Which means new rig time.

Level 9

i am looking for a security camera system

Level 12

I am looking at the new Surface Books and Surface Go laptops

Level 10

Looking at faster wireless APs since everything is wireless now.   As well, checking out faster transmissions than 1GB.   I ran Cat6A cable through my house and would love to run 10GB on new network equipment.

Level 8

Wyze Cam Pan - scary cheap, no monthly and it follows you around like some droid.

Level 11

I need a good security camera system as well.

Level 9

Already been said a couple of times, but I'm in the market for a new camera security system and a Door Bell system. Who knows, i may go hog wild and go full Home system, thermostat, lights, garage doors etc!

Level 9

Needing to add more to my smart home gadgets, thermostats, more plugin. Also a new TV for the basement that is being finished!

We're shopping for new, application-aware firewalls. We need layer 7 traffic shaping and limiting.

And it would be really neat if NPM had "Network Insight" for some of the other major players out there

My Top Ten Tech Picks for this Black Friday:

In no particular order:

  • A UDT that works as advertised.  (Sorry, SW.  I'm upgrading my NAM to the latest RC in a few days, fingers are crossed!)
  • Waterproof computer backpack (my daughter's heading to Ireland after Christmas, she thinks she's going to get soaked!)
  • Abu Garcia Maintenance Kit  (Special oil & grease & tools for fancy fishing reels)
  • Perko 1092DP1BLK 3/4"-2-3/8" Cam Bar Adjustable Black/Chrome Surface Mount Latch for Smooth and Carpeted Surfaces, 5 pcs (One of mine in the boat broke last summer.)
  • Shimano Bantam Reel Oil (OK, I'm on a fishing roll here)
  • P. Mauriat PMXT-66$ Series Professional Tenor Saxophone (I played one of these years ago, loved it, but couldn't afford it.  "Santa, baby . . .")
  • Globalstar GSP-1600 Satellite Phone (for those trips when I'm far from civilization, in case I need rescuing.  Seriously.)
  • Humminbird 600038-8 Electronic Charts SmartStrike Minnesota version (Provides new ideas about where to fish.  Particularly of interest each time I visit a lake for the first time.)
  • Shimano Calcutta CT400B Musky Fishing Reel (I DO love me some big freshwater predator fish!)
  • Garmin Panoptix LiveScope transducer system with a matching compatible 8624 MFD head unit.  (Hey, it's only $14K for a box that shows you real-time sonar images of fish moving about.)

Implement Cisco ISE on our Wireless LANs and network, can we monitor it in SW?
Roll out VMWare Workspace ONE, again it would be nice to monitor it in SW.

NPM 12.4 is in RC right now, so once that goes GA keep an eye on https://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-176899#start=650 to see what the next "InSight" will be.

Sadly I'm locked into the Google eco-system at home, so I want some additional Google speakers (Home & Mini) and wouldn't mind trying the new Home Hub! Not sure I'm ready for the new ChromeCast just yet my TV isn't 4K ready.

I would love some SolarWinds Headphones or a Hoodie (*cough*)

Ring Doorbell seems pretty common now, so why not I'll have one of those too

I would love a new laptop, I want to exchange my iPad in for a Surface Pro (I previously had a Pro 4 for work but left that company and miss it) I want something more travel-friendly that isn't Apple OSX!

Need a HTC Vive Pro set - and some sparetime to invent a VR version of the SolarWinds GUI 🙂
