I recently added links in the alert email and they are not being written properly.
I.E.
P01ITW045:443/.../View.aspx
should be
solarwinds/.../View.aspx
Where is this variable stored? How do I change it?
The only way I've ever known to do this is to hand-write the URL, except for the last important piece. Thus all of my alerts have
http://myserverurl/Orion/View.aspx?NetObject=I:${interfaceid}
or
http://myserverurl/Orion/View.aspx?NetObject=N:${nodeid}
or AA for the application, or AM, or whatever.
It's a pain, but it's a pain that's worth it so people get to use "http://monitoring.mycompany.com/" instead of some weird server name.
I had a similar issue come up with writing out the acknowledge URL. The value is stored in the "Websites" table in the SolarWinds database.
select * from Websites
update Websites set ServerName='solarwinds', port=443 where WebsiteID=1
Let me know if that works for you.
Here's a link to the full KB article entitled "Configure website URL for Alerts and Reports". Isn't there also a way to change the URL from the web console's settings page in Orion?
It's in Settings under Product Specific Settings -> "Web Console Settings" and then search for ORION WEB SERVER ADDRESS.
I believe the preferred method is to update the database, but we used this as a stand in before updating the database after an issue we had last week.
Recommended Method - Database Edit
Not recommended - Quick Method
Side note - some URL variables will show up with nothing during simulated alerts or force executed alerts
Only when a real alert email goes through then you it will populate (These are usually URL variables that only generate during actual alerts)
This thread has been a real head scratcher for me... With every single commercial software that I have ever maintained as an IT pro, the rule from vendors has always been, without exception: "do not make configuration changes directly to the database. Use our programmatic methods through the GUI, script, or command-line tool."
What makes this case different? Why is there an option in the web settings to change the URL, but the recommendation is to not use it? (Is this intended for something else? Is it just not feature complete?) I must haz the understandingz!
